Porsche 911 GT2 RS vs. 911 GT3 Cup
Very cool comparo between a Porsche 911 GT2 RS vs. 911 GT3 Cup
Hot laps with data at the end of the video.
Thank you to Steve Dimakos, Bryan Sellers, David Murry Track Days and all who made this happen.

Very well produced video.
I wonder if it would have been closer had the RS kept the OEM tires

First of all, great video and comparison -- so much fun to compare these 2 cars. In the dedicated thread to this comparison, I had wrote before the event that I believed the delta would be 4.6 seconds in favor of the Cup car (ended up being just over 5 sec.) Even with a top level pro driver, I didn't think he would feel as comfortable pushing to the absolute limit with the 2RS as compared with his familiarity already with the cup car.
Question for you and VR:
After watching the video, it looked like the 2RS is hunting for traction on corner entry all the way to the apex. There's also a lot of steering input mid corner with the 2RS. Do you think this is a result of tires or the fact that the driver knows he has ABS and is going deeper on approach?
Second, it appears the ride height on the 2Rs is rather high especially compared to the cup. We know that Steve wanted to make this a comparo as close to "stock" as possible for the 2RS, but do you think that changing the ride height and rake of the RS would help in stability and ultimately lap times on this track?

I think it's tires and set up.
As for ride height, there are limitations with a street car and street suspension that are much greater than with a purpose built race car. I personally do not know how low an RS can be set, or the range of rake adjustment (yet...a client of mine has one inbound). I do know these things with the Cup and the adjustability is large

Brian Sellars is one of the best in the business and was a GTLM driver.
Doesnt get much better than that. Maybe Timo or Tandy if that is what you mean but Brian drove both cars to eliminate the driver comparison part.

The OEM tires were not and I think stil are not available. The RS was not optimized for the track at all. Even to its adjustment capabilities. The Cup has far more data to go on and had a specific setup for the track. And the tires make a huge difference. Slicks vs Trofeo...

That was a fun test, and as everyone else said, really well produced. The final screen to screen comparison after the credits really showed differences in the cars. And that smokin' 2:11:98 lap is over 2 seconds faster than the current rennpoints record for GTC6 and about 5/10ths slower than the fastest rennpoints record in GT1R. Likewise, his lap in the GT2RS was faster than the GTC3 record. I'm sure with more seat time in that car he couldn't have gotten it down even further. Even still, super impressive for a bone stock street car that you can take to the grocery store (granted, Costco not so much).
Well done.
Well done.
