"Doing things outside F1 is something that happens mainly with drivers who are not winning," Verstappen said.

When asked if he is interested in following Alonso to America and Le Mans, the 20-year-old Verstappen answered: "Maybe. If I'm old and slow, I will do it."
No notion of history. No respect for these other series.

Nico Hulkenberg has been very competitive in F1 this year and won Le Mans in 2015. Does he lack motivation?

Max, for all his achievements, is still very immature. Hell of a driver - but he needs to grow up.

Moxy or naivety? He’s either doing great or crashing. He’s in his 4th year in F1 and doesn’t seem to have learned from his mistakes. In a way it’s difficult to blame him in this social media era as he’s always told by every Dutch countrymen that he’s the greatest that has ever lived. A 20 year olds ego is sure to be inflated

I think he was fair in the article, in that he also called out his dad for the same thing.

Full disclosure: I'm a Max fanboy.

I can't wait for a class guy like LeClerc to get to a front running team and siphon off all of Max's fans. By the time Max wins a championship he'll be old and slow.

Everything the kid said in the article was true. He was direct and honest — just being quoted out of context for dramatic (click) value. Every LeMans or Indy driver, including the top ones, would jump to a top F1 team if offered, no questions asked.

"When you have the best car on the grid, everyone can win with that car. Any F1 driver could have won in the Mercedes for the last four years. Everyone knows that. That's why you don't see (Lewis) Hamilton leaving to do these things because he doesn't need to. It's the same for me. I'm in a position to fight for victories, so my motivation is very high. I don't want to do Le Mans or IndyCar or whatever."

Verstappen said that Alonso is not the only driver who has lost motivation in Formula 1.

"My father had the same problem," said Verstappen, referring again to his father and former Formula 1 driver Jos. "He (Jos) was in F1 but he didn't win, and there's a moment when the motivation simply disappears and it kills you inside."

It's hard to defend him when you have guys like LeClerc that are similar in age and demonstrate 100% more class.
I agree that the kid can drive but he needs a shrink more than a driving coach.

Yep, nothing unreasonable in that article, best to not react to things quoted out of context. Journalists often cherry pick and take things out of context in order to pursue agendas and get audiences, I've seen that happen with my own statements. Seems clear to me that he's saying there's no reason to move out of the pinnacle of F1 unless he can't get into a competitive car/team or his skills start to fall off.
