Tire Bags to extend life of race rubber over winter
Has anyone used tire bags as a way to extend life of race tires if they are sitting in the garage over the winter. rubber degrades pretty quickly and ive heard substantially from ozone even in a dark garage . temps are also an issue too. i used to wrap the tires i wasn't goint to use over a year, in plastic Wrap, and when i pealed it off of a tire after a couple of years, the part that was covered was a few shades more black than surrounding rubber. dont know if that goes deeper , but it made me think that using a plastic bag (lots of them on the internet for tire storage) might be better. wrapping the tires is time consuming and ive become lazy.. now that im buying new tires on occasion , i want to get the most out of them. is a plastic bag as good as wrappng them in stretchy plastic wrap?
thanks,
Mk

I store my tires off season in my basement covered in similar covers. Does it make them last, cant say, but the stacks look better

you can buy large vacuum seal bags (the kind that are used to store clothes, where you use vacuum cleaner to evacuate air) that fit tires... I have some that fit 315/680's.

thanks! yep, it must help as when i remove the plastic wrap off the tires, its a couple shades darker after a year under the wrap. if that effect happens with bagging, it sure cant be bad. plus, as was said, the stacks look better in bags.
