Default 19" tire recommendations for track

have a 991 C2S cab with 20" Carrera S wheels and looking for a 19" setup for track use only. stock being 245/35/20 & 295/30/20 on Michelin PSS. I've also tracked on the OEM P-Zero

Just based on price point and my driving abilities (adv beginner / intermediate) I'm really interested in the RE71 tire. With a 19x8.5 & 19x11 setup, tire rack is recommending 235/40/19 & 285/35/19 for front & rear. I was thinking of going with a 245/40/19 & 285/35/19 combo to make the fronts a little wider. I've seen some go wider in the rear too with a 305/30/19 setup. Does anyone have any experiences to share or recommendations? I think with my relatively noob status it won't really matter that much, but thought I'd ask around for any thoughts. Thanks in advance!

RE71R’s are a great tire, they wear fast though. I’d do a Hankook RS4 245/35 305/30 combo if I were you. RS4’s are nearly as fast as RE71R’s but will last 2-3x longer. I just switched to RS4’s after 2 sets of RE71R’s, and I’m very happy. FYI- I ran 245/305 on a 997 C2S for years, great balance.

RE71Rs are my go to track tire so your wear comments on RS4s makes them interesting. Do you have lap time deltas to share on the same track and car b/w RE71R and RS4?

Not yet in my car, I will in early June... heading to Mid Ohio. Friends who endurance race w/ WRL and AER say they've equaled their lap times on RE71R's in their Miata's w/ RS4's. A set of RS4's will last an entire enduro weekend and still look great (2 eight hour endurance races), whereas the RE71R's had to be nursed to finish one enduro and was corded.

Agree RS4's are awesome, they last long and are pretty resistant to getting greasy on long stints. We run them in WRL for 8 hour races as well.

I ran Hancook RS3 on last 2 cars. I got 7+ events out of the last set. 235/35/19 & 305/30/19 on 8 and 11 " rims. With no signs of the end being near I took them to NJMP last Sept and 2nd session on Fri they gave up. They got hard before the rubber ran out. Scrambled to get another set in almost any brand. Lucky me the only set available was RE71R in 245 and 305. I think the grip is higher (than RS3) and couldn't be happier with them. I believe they are more sensitive to temps and negative camber in the rear but overall a great tire that couldn't possibly last as long. I have heard the RS4 is an improvement on RS3's grip. I have no feedback on life expectancy.
Don't go by size alone, go by tread width. The tire bead may be in the same spot but you want to maximize contact patch. The RE71R was not as wide in the same size.

Re-reading these comments I think I am going to go back to RS4 after these wear out. Can anyone compare these two tires to NT01 or Toyo R888R ?
They all seem to be available in the OP's target 19" sizes

thanks for the suggestions everyone!

I went with the RS4's on my order in 245/35/19 and 305/30/19 and look forward to them! Will be happy to supply feedback to anyone interested. Also, any recommended tire pressures for the track?

I wonder how RS4s would stand up against old school R11s? I can get cheap sets for RS4 in 18s
