Agree with Greg. Go to Wasco for the Best Western. Nothing fancy but not a dump and there's a decent Mexican place within about 5 minutes.

There is two hotel centers north and south of buttonwillow. the are all dumps, but for a night or two, its fine. south is about 6 miles from track, north is about 10. anything else is a haul from the track in my opinion. Plus, you want to stay north.... that is your option 10 miles north of buttonwillow. at hyway 46. I think its a motel 6

Tent. Better than any of the local motels unless it's absolutely pouring rain in the middle of the night (rare, but did happen to me once). Actually, the tent might still be better.
