I have yet to like a single Clarkson review. He uses too many words to say almost nothing.

Going for a 981 Boxster S test drive...

fair enough - I usually get a laugh out of his ridiculous metaphors

A 981 S or GTS is a much more complete car with a lot of the same major features - small light mid-engine car with great handling and adequate power. Far better practicality and fit and finish too. For a primary car it’s the obvious choice, and frankly that’s why they sell so well in their space in the market. The 4C while flawed is much lighter, more immersive, and more of an event to drive - so better as a toy, worse as a car.

Test drove one. Was OK, light, drove like a race car but too basic, "plasticky", noisy, rattly, unrefined -- not a Porsche. I already have two intense, raw, no compromise, performance-focused, sweaty-palms cars in my 6gt3 and the SPB. Maybe I'm getting old but I'm looking for something more refined and relaxing for my back-road runs. Just drove the 981 Box S. PASM on/off, Sports Plus on/off, doesn't matter. It's probably the best back-roads car in the world at ANY price. Chris Harris is spot on with this review:

Congrats on the new 4C! Post pics! 4C was out of the running for me due to no manual.

Gary doing fake-news, as usual. The no-manual eliminated the 4C for me anyway.
