Default How to turn off brake wear indicator light?

I'm fitting a set of Hawk pads for an upcoming track event and the pads do not have accommodation for the wear sensors. I clipped the old sensor wires an used the plug to fill the din receptical to keep out water/dirt... I figured that by clipping the wire I was opening the circuit and the light would turn off, but no. It must work differently than I thought. How does the circuit work? I'd be nice to clean up the dash warning lights.

you have to tie them together - complete the circuit

Yeah. You got it backwards. The sensor closes the circuit and when it wears through, it opens and the light goes on. Just strip the ends of the wires and twist them together and then zip tie it out of the way.

What car? On the 987 at least, you can code out that function.

Thanks! I was worried about frying something if I did this without understanding the circuit. I just figured that the sensor made contact with the rotor and then completed a circuit to turn on the light... backwards again as usual.

It's contact with the rotor that slowly wears that sensor pad away. When the wire running through it gets worn away by the rotor you end up with an open circuit to set the warning light.

It's a negative side circuit so don't worry about it shorting to ground or waterproofing it. You can solder, wire nut or otherwise connect the stripped wires together sloppily or neatly, or merely tie the intact sensor out of the way. Been discussed here many, many times.
