I have an idea. Loose about 50#'s like I did and the heat won't bother you so much and your body will thank you.

I went to a local drag strip tonight...a popular local drag strip that’s also NHRA sactioned. I ran a few passes for fun and guess what....they require windows up. ....for safety reasons.

I spoke with a track safety worker and explained the road courses I run on with a couple track day event organizers like Porsche Club and Chin Track Days require windows down. I told him the reasons why they claimed windows down are safer and this track safety worker said he wouldn’t be running if windows down were required.

Windows up he he said is absolutely safer in a accident at speed to keep arms like the car and debris out of the car from hitting the driver.

And do they let you run short sleeve t-shirts in the summer, like a number of local drag strips (no national sanctioning body overseeing their policies and procedures) do?

Not a fan of doing something because "someone else does it different..."

NHRA safety is all based on ET. Run faster than x, need y. X-1 second and need y +. It's a logical way, though some of the rules seem weird to me.

Most local drag strips, unless they host a National or regional touring series, are unaffiliated, and make up their own rules. There is no standard.

We can run t-shirts and short pants at Sebring too...Daytona, Homestead, Barber, Road Atl.....so anyway...I’d wear a driving suit if needed to run windows up at DE’s!!! Windows up, driving suit helmet and gloves....much safer than windows down t shirt and shorts

That hasn't been my experience. Most of the strips I've been to over the last 32 years have been associated with NHRA or IHRA. The few that didn't have any association still followed the rules of one of those two. Maybe it's different in the south.

Well, there’s ONE NHRA track in NH, Epping. Two in New Jersey (yep, went to Atco forty years ago), three in NY, three in PA. That’s it in the Northeast for NHRA affiliated strips. Sort of like road race tracks.

OTOH, there are hundreds of 1/8-mile and quite a few 1/4-mile strips that don’t host Sportsman or National rounds, hence don’t have or need an association with the two largest sanctioning bodies. My only point is that the safety requirements for the strips (as well as unaffiliated ovals) that I’ve been to that are NOT holding minor or major events are the wild, Wild West, meaning if you are breathing and you can sign a waiver, you can run! Fun stuff!

Quote: Oliver Berg, Manager GT-Product Porsche

One option that is not recommended if you ever want to sell the car is air-conditioning delete. “Only 20 the 5,000 first generation 991 GT3 RS owners ticked the box for a/c delete,” said Oliver. “The fact is that while the 14kg weight saving might sound good on paper the discomfort you will experience when wearing a race suit and helmet on track in summer is simply not worth it. You will be hot and bothered and slower because you cannot concentrate as well compared to when you are cool and comfortable.”
