I think this is the car Gregg sold me ($15k) in the Fall of "72. I raced it in two SCCA races, then entered the Daytona Paul Revere in July of '73. My co driver for Daytona was an SCCA driving instructor I met at Riverside, when I went through their race license course in '72. I had never driven in a pro race so he started, but the car wouldn't fire up and by the time it did, he was almost a lap down. In his effort to catch up he missed a shift and blew the engine. I never got a race lap. Next race was Mid Ohio and I decided to start. I got up to 6th overall, then the electrics caught fire and that was it. After the race I met a guy who offered his race shop in Overland Park, Kansas, so I followed him there to try and fix the car. On a trip to Art Bunker Porsche to get parts, I saw a brand new 2.8 Carrera race car for sale and bought it on the spot and put the ex Gregg car up for sale. I raced the 2.8 Carrera for the rest of the '73 IMSA season, without a co driver or crew and got a 10th at Lime Rock, 14th at Road Atlanta, 6th at Indianapolis and 10th at Daytona. So, my first IMSA experience turned out OK, after the very bad start with 911 030 1263.
Thanks again for the photos!

The car is in the Brumos collection. 911 030 1263 went through many hands before landing back in Jacksonville.
I have good memories of that Porsche. Deciding to go IMSA racing, looking in Competition Pres classifieds, finding Peter Gregg's ad and calling him, then flying out from California, renting a truck and having Jack Atkinson help me load it up, then the long drive back to Burlingame. I cleaned the car up and entered an SCCA race at Laguna Seca, where they made me run it in A sports racing since it didn't fit production car rules. It was a big step up from my Datsun 510 that I was running in showroom stock sedan. We did one more SCCA regional race at Riverside and after that we found a garage in Los Angeles and prepared the car for the Daytona Paul Revere 250 and the Mid Ohio 6hr. After that I sold the Porsche to Bill Bean. I think the car was still raced well into the '80s.
The black and white photo was taken at Mid Ohio, where we ran as high as 5th overall, before the car caught fire. Two DNFs in two IMSA starts.

Amazing how stock looking all these cars are compared to the purpose built race cars we see on track now.
