Fire extinguisher

What are you using for hand held fire extinguishers? I have a single older Halon 2.5 lb handheld strapped to the roll bar. I want to add a 2nd as I don’t think a single discharge would last very long. I see Halotron is now available and some others products that don’t immediately list the chemical agent. I have no first-hand experience with any of them. I want to have something useful.

Cheers!

Have you thought about an Element?

BF951 01-11-2018 11:26 PM

Never heard of it before. Literally had to Google it. https://www.elementfire.com/
50 sec discharge for $80 100 sec discharge for $120. Good for all classifications. Thank you! Looks promising.
Just need to fabricate a way to securely mount it within reach.

I spoke with one of the owners, Paul, and was extremely impressed with the performance of the product. They presented at SEMA and had a lot of interest. They are working on agreements to be available through various dealers we all know and depend on. Due to this they are not keen on the idea of a group buy but given their pricing it is hardly necessary. They are also working on FIA and SFI certifications and inclusion in the Porsche Tequipment catalog.

All products are immediately available through their website, free shipping! Not even a hazardous materials surcharge.
Check out their FAQ page, no maintenance and no effective expiration.

Thanks for the follow up info. Also if you want a little Porsche 'Celebrity Endorsement' today Jeff Zwart posted on his Instagram that he is an Element user in his classic Porsches: https://www.instagram.com/zwart/?hl=en

Pretty cool

I ordered an Element today with roll bar mount.

BF951 01-13-2018 02:01 AM

I ordered the same today.
Paul sent me his direct contact information and said he would be glad to speak to anyone that has questions or or could offer suggestions on any events that would give him the opportunity to help promote the product.

I got mine this week. I'll have it mounted on the roll bar of my car for our PCA event at Roebling Raceway in a couple of weeks.

Here is where I think there could be improvement (this is specific to the rollbar mount that I also bought)
1) It would be nice if there were a rubberized coating on the back of the mount - this would avoid metal to metal contact with the bar and prevent it from scratching the powder coating.
2) I wish it utilized more than a simple hose clamp (again metal) as I don't want to scratch the bar. I plan to put some heat shrink tubing around the bands.
3) The picture on the site shows that the words "fire extinguisher" are cut into the mount itself - that's not the case. It comes with a reflective sticker instead. No big deal.

Overall - its a really interesting concept. Anyone that is worried that the operation isn't intuitive - don't. One look at it and you get it. The only concern is that someone seeing it for the first time may not know what it is or how to use it (imagine a scenario where someone needs one and your car is the nearest parked).

I'll take some pics when I get it mounted (in a place that I can easily reach from inside the car and outside of the car).

I also received the FE and mount this week and thought the same thing about the mount. I have a section of rubber bike tubing over one of the diagonal bars where I will attach it. Avoids the metal-metal contact.
I hope we never have to use these but safety items do make me feel better about about what we do.

As a follow up on the mounting...

I sprayed the back of the extinguisher mount with a couple of coats of plasti-dip. Also wrapped electrical tape around the hose clamp that secures it. No issues and no scratches.

Looks good. I have yet to install mine. I was considering changing to a full roll bar first. Why not improve safety all around.

which is the way to go, the element 50 or the 100?
