Default End of the GTLM era

Congrats to the Weathertech team at Road Atlanta after a challenging season, and a nice reward for the brazen move to field a second car for the last race of the series. I got a chance to see them at Laguna a few weeks ago, and was struck by the wail of the LM car compared to the GTD. Totally different animal. I’ll miss these big boys. And of course kudos to Pfaff for winning the GTD championship.

Been a long goodbye on the RSR. Thought we'd seen the last of them this past November at Sebring with the "THANK YOU" across the rear wings.

Then Weathertech picked one up for a GTLM campaign this year, ears were punished more at Daytona. For some of the race we were seated about 1/2 way up the grandstands around T6, right before the start of the banking. Only car in the entire field that had me consistently reaching for ear cover. My wife hates the thing, son loves it.

Agreed, will miss the uber GT category. Not entirely clear to me how the new GTD & GTD Pro classes will shake out. But obviously, more entries and a change was necessary. GTLM was looking paltry for most of this season.

Here's a great RSR onboard. Check the dust plume on the rear cam exit of T1.

I had my dB meter at turn 9 at Road Atlanta, and the RSR was consistently above 105dB. None of the other cars were that loud — DPi were less than 95. I saw a high of 122dB from a mixed group of cars at the same spot. Even my non-car addicted wife could easily ID the Porsches. I’ll take that as a win.

Stood right above them many times heading into the uphill at Lime Rock. Simply glorious.
