Default 718 Cayman S Brake pads and discs

Hi everyone,

I track a '18 718 Cayman S with the Sports Chrono and PASM Sport. Any suggestions on brake pads for street/track and discs?

Thanks in advance.

What is you experience level?

Just starting out? I would stick with stock stuff until you have 5-6 events under your belt.

Then you get into a grey area.

Once you are solo, there really isn't a good combo solution...IMHO you need to swap pads for the track.

Sorry should have qualified the statement, extensive experience, last car was a ZL1 1LE with roll cage, harnesses and slicks, have tracked Corvette, GT3, GTR, 458, 911 S, 911 Turbo. 17 years, decided I didn't need to be the fastest just the funnest. Just got the 718 and was going to store it for the track, I have a '18 Performante that I daily and lightly track, (very lightly). The 718 is more fun than the Perf in certain circumstance, I'm using both about 50/50. So instead of track focused wanted a bit of both, know that's hard. I'm running -2.24 camber back, -1.75 camber front with a little toe, (can't remember the number). Tires are holding up but the stock brakes did not. Just looking for suggestions on both rotors and pads, don't need rotors yet but that's coming. Thanks for any insight!

For rotors I assume there is a sebro slotted option for that car. They seem to be popular. Although I still like PFC, they are more expensive but I "believe" (no definitive evidence) they do cool themselves a little better.

At that level, I don't think there is a pad you will be happy with that doesn't squeal like crazy on the street. Perhaps others have found some magic though.

@ M3995,

You need to head over to the 718 forum. These questions of yours have been posted and answered numerous.

I like the Ferardo 3:12 pads, you should talk to Clark at Apex Performance, he sell many brands with great pricing.

I have a 21 Cayman GTS that needs new pads, talked to Clark at Apex Performance today and he recommended the Ferodo DS2500 for combo street/track use.

Heh, and Clark recommended the DS3.12 for my '19 GTS. I thought they were great at the track and quiet on the street, but I did use a bunch of goop on the back of the pads, too.

All the Ferodo pad options for the 718 Cayman S can be seen here: https://www.essexparts.com/my-vehicl...0S/Iron%20disc

You can see the different compound descriptions here: https://www.essexparts.com/brake-pads/ferodo-brake-pads

The DS2500 is great for road/track, unless you pour too much heat into them on the track, at which point they will wear out fairly quickly. The DS1.11 or DS3.12 are the full race pad compound options. The DS1.11 is moderate mu, and the DS3.12 is high mu. The 3.12 also lasts a little longer and doesn't make as much noise. The 3.12 will be harder on the discs when driven around town cold however.

Pads are all about tradeoffs. There's no 'one compound fits all situations' option. A good street pad isn't good on the track, and a good race pad isn't good on the road. Every person needs to figure out what compromises best fit their car and situation.

I have Sebro slotted and Ferodo DS 1.11s on a 2013 Boxster S. Just completed second weekend at Summit Point with NASA HPDE 3 with no issues. Bonus is they do not squeak on the street. I had Raybestos ST43s last year and they were more aggressive and harder on the rotors.

Call Clark at ApexDirect: 843.299.0997 :: Toll Free: 866.505.2739

He'll set you up and don't forget to tell him you're a Rennlister. You won't be disappointed.

I have been buying the 1.11 and 3.12 's from him for many years, and I'm buying up to10 sets/season for 2 track cars.

Great service, great price, and very easy to deal with.

Call Clark...

I bought from FCPEuro early this year but they have since dropped the DS 1.11 and only offer the DS2500.
