I wouldn't keep it for any period of time. Maybe a month or two tops leading up to summer. I maintain 7-9% year round.

You can maintain it with proper nutrition and workout regimen but I'm too old for that.

So true.

I almost feel a short attention span is a benefit for the current car...

Very happy for you Matt. I saw your post on FB and you've done a great job.

The past 1-2 seasons I've been driving 'heavy.' My bead seat has been uncomfortable and I resisted shaving it down. I also found that I was breathing like Lewis Hamilton without his water bottle. My HR is typically in the 140-150 range when I'm driving hot and having extra weight on is not good for me or my times. So, I'm already down 15-20 pounds and need about 7 more to hit normal BMI. I've been working hard on cardio endurance and core. Hopefully this will pay off next season.

Thanks! I'll drink a white Russian to that!

Awesome on the loss! Isn't it interesting how it's more our desire to drive well than health benefits that motivates us?

I used to do competitive sports (running and cycling) in my younger days. At age 66, I still work out pretty much daily. It's a habit with me, like eating and sleeping. I no longer run but still ride the bike and I swim, and also do core workouts. I need to hit the gym more frequently and lift weights because I just don't have the muscular strength that I used to have. I also try to be careful about what I eat and my weight is within 10 lbs of what I weighed in college. It won't surprise people to hear that it doesn't get easier as you get older.

Hah! So true for some of us. Sort of like looking at the track fifty feet in front of us rather than WAY down the road and through the next corner!

Just turned 54 a couple of weeks ago, jumped on the scale after the weekend, heaviest I have ever been. Was a little bit of a wake up call, always spend time in the gym but I have never been this heavy, down 8 pounds since then going for 25 more. Plus having trouble getting new SPC car down to weight, my wrench keeps pointing at my gut and saying that is the cheapest way we can take some more weight out

Interesting thread and want to add my 2 cents. As an avid weight trainer with a relatively strict diet I believe your overall quest for fitness is a lifestyle decision that doesn't need to be complicated or include much deprivation. Commit to 4-5 workouts per week, after workout stretching and make sure you fuel your body with healthy food. Don't focus on the scale, focus on the mirror and overall fitness measurements; resting heart rate, BP, percent body fat. It's truly a consistency thing rather than the typical off and on approach that so many fall victim to. This approach may not peel seconds off your lap times but will at least provide the foundation to maintain pace for a full race.

Do not forget working on attitude. My brother, a tennis teaching pro, had the advantage of working with the proper attitude that would lead to mistakes from the other guy. The best example was Vettel’s red mist rage during a race. A preventable error. This is taking advantage of other’s boneheaded mistakes. One thing the other guy may not prepare for.
