Default How do you store/organize your nuts and bolts?

I am looking for some sort of system like this but that is portable and I can move between my garage and trailer and can survive driving down the road.
Amazon Amazon

What are people doing to keep their small parts organized/inventoried that isn't too expensive.

Thanks!

Look into fishing tackle boxes, the compartments individually seal and come in all sizes. Bass Pro Shop is my go to place.

I'd look to something from Milwaukee, Ridgid, or DeWault from this page https://www.homedepot.com/b/Tools-To...s/N-5yc1vZc28p

I like these https://www.homedepot.com/p/HDX-15-C...0034/204515485 and have made cabinets for the garage to hold 10 of them. I also like these https://www.homedepot.com/p/HDX-13-i...0028/204645520

Very popular and cheap are these https://www.harborfreight.com/tool-s...ase-62778.html People then make rolling carts that will hold a number of them. They also make some that hold 8 bins but the same size outer case.

Just saw this that might be just what you want though https://www.harborfreight.com/tool-s...ers-68238.html

I have one of these, but not cheap. Holds a ton and is well made. https://store.snapon.com/Parts-Stora...--P637243.aspx

Thanks Matt, that gives me a ton to look at, for some reason I had never come across this whole section of products that do exactly what I want!

I have something very similar mounted to the wall of my garage for smaller stuff, and a larger harbor freight unit for the bigger stuff. I even store some small parts and odds and ends in it.

Wurth is good. Get yellow, not clear zinc. Bel-Metric is also good.

For the travel kit, fasteners go into a couple of these: https://store.snapon.com/Parts-Stora...--P630864.aspx

Agree with Matt: Bel-metric and Wurth. Bel-metric is a bit less expensive, one-day delivery since I live in the same state, and the people who answer the phone (just the two guys I think) know their catalog. Wurth is fine if you know what you want, but if you have to ask their sales guys to find you a particular type of fastener, etc., good luck. A lot of turn-over at least locally.

I also bought a bunch of these as recommended at HD https://www.homedepot.com/p/HDX-15-C...0034/204515485

And some dewalt ones with larger bins for things like axle seals and such.

Great setup. You'll be set. Now buy a labeler and mark everything.

Fastenal sucks!

Yes, I really like the cheap plastic bins as described above from Home Depot. If I have the time to order parts or if they are metric or special, I look at MSC Industrial Supply www.mscdirect.com. Otherwise, I go around the corner to the local Tractor Supply store and buy a bag of standard or Grade 8 bolts by the pound.

I've got the Home Depot cases too and they have held up for years now. I think this style of case is way better than the ones with the little drawers in the original post because you can see what's in every compartment without having top open up every drawer.

I bought about a dozen of these from Home Depot many years ago and have them arranged for nuts/bolts, nails, wood/drywall screws, electrical, plumbing and picture hanging. Works great and easy to view and grab.

The cheap plastic ones are fine if they are going to sit around on shelving, but are a pain if you take them to the track as they open fairly easily when carried (don't ask me how I know). For me the Husky unit works well and the lid will not come open when carried.
