I am looking into a second set of wheels/tires that can navigate a wet track well, and also drive well on a drying track (even fully dry for balance of a day, in a pinch). Our weather is so unpredictable.

2004 GT3, instructor group, not overly aggressive nor looking to win the DE. My normal track tires are NT-01.

I am thinking something like a SuperSport, or the new Conti Extreme Contact Sport equivalent.

Thoughts?

235 and 295/18 are the parameters, +/-.

Matt, I've got nothing but good things to say about the RE71R--I don't trailer so it's to the track, on the track, home from the track, wet track or dry. They do wear very quickly in the dry but on a wet track obviously not so much of an issue.

Won't have to worry about wet tomorrow @ Mosport though

For rain? I guess they are better than slicks in the rain, but there are certainly better options. From my experience with fresh nittos in the rain, they are OK at best in damp conditions, but any semblance of standing water and they behave like a slick.

I use the re71r as my rain tire, and they were good until they have worn down to about 40% tread. Now they are usable in the rain, but not ideal. Have a potentially rainy weekend ahead and my options are the 40% re71r, fresh nitto nt01 and pirelli slicks...will be going with the bridgestones in the wet.

Matt, I ran the Super Sports on the 993 when not using Hoosiers and liked them a lot.
Admittedly I didn't do much rain driving in them but as a dual purpose tire they are an option.

I use NT-01s dry and NT-05s wet. The 05s are good in the wet and can handle 100% dry without chunking, plus they are pretty cheap.

For me, even brand new NT-01s are pretty crappy in the wet.

Thanks for the replies and ideas everyone. Yeah, there is no perfect solution. Even sizing is not obvious. For clarity, I tow my track tires, so should always have them available. This is really for WET - still getting out on track, avoiding aquaplaning, etc.

Lots of good reviews of this tire (essentially a knock-off of the Michelin), stiffer sidewalls and all. Of everything I've read, it excels in the wet - including getting to/from the track safely if that's required. Sizing is OK - would require a taller rear, but that's OK...

I'm a fan of the MPSS, I ran them in the wet/cold for my first event this year and they did great. Really good wet traction and handled the dry (but cold) track well later in the day.

No real appreciable wear on them either....

Gotta point out that my M3 has quite a bit less power than your GT3 tho, so take that into account....
