Default Force 5 Window Net Legal for PCA Club Racing?

Anyone know if these window nets are legal for PCA club racing? I have one and would hate to show at my first race and they tell me it's not legal. I can't figure it out from the rule book.

You should be fine provided it is SFI certified. It would be helpful to see what it looks like in your car. When in doubt, email a picture with it in your car to Walt Fricke.

The only nets I have ever seen rejected at PCA are the triangular nets with the front mounted too low. Even those were ruled ok provided you wear arm restraints but I would not recommend them because you'll get called in from the corner workers for having your window net down all the time.

I was told that the rules have changed and those are no longer legal, but if you email Walt get back to us with his advise, please.

A link for us outside the loop. https://www.paragon-products.com/pro..._993driver.htm
It might confuse a safety worker seeing them for the 1st time.

According to Appendic D of the PCA Racing Rules. No. The window net must be attached to the cage.

Excellent point. It must also have the removal mechanism on top so the net falls down.

From the May 5th 2017 update that was emailed out:
Appendix D – Window Net Specifications:
* Appendix D is changed to allow the use of straps to attach nets if they are as specified by the manufacturer. Nets which use a metal rod or rectangular metal piece to thread through the base of the net may use nylon or equivalent straps of suitable strength to attach the metal piece to the door bar. Plastic buckles may be used only if provided by the manufacturer of a net which has SFI or FIA certification.

Wow, didn't even realize we still had one. One only that is and I just put it on sale if anyone is interested.

Does that mean the OP's device is allowed?

From the products website - Force 5 Window Nets consist of an expandable frame that engages the driver window frame when the window is fully retracted. A quick release latch is incorporated as well as an Emergency Release Pin for secondary release. The force 5 window net has been designed per SFI Window Net Specification 27.1.

Sounds to me like no, as built to a spec doesn't mean it's been SFI rated.

Walt has the final word and should be directly contacted, but since it's not attached to the roll cage, I am confident that net is not PCA legal.

Guys, keep in mind that these things came on the scene when Porsche Club Racing was still very young. PCA didn't even require full cages in stock classes in the beginning. I'd be surprised if it was still considered PCA legal.

For what it's worth it is indeed SFI rated... in any event bought a new window net kit that attaches to the roll bar and putting it on this weekend. Another $$$ added to the already way out of budget first race.
