Default Tires for Calabogie

I wasn't able to attend last week with NER / NNJR, now looking for some feed back from folks who probably put a lot of laps on their tires.

Calabogie used to have a reputation for being aggressive on tires.

Which of the R DOT tires seem to hold up the best? Do the MPSC2 work well at Calabogie?

TIA

Lots of views, but no comments?

Am I wrong that the track surface chews up tires?

^ Track definitely chews through tires. PSC2 are good there (normally what I use), but Trofeo R will are usually 2-3 second per lap faster. My experience is 3 days at Calabogie on Trofeo before they're done, and about 6 days on PSC2.

Thanks for the data points.
That's more aggressive than I expected.

I just came back from 1.5 days (9 X 25 minutes total). I try to get there at least once a year.

I ran new NT-01 (drove down and back on them, 450 miles return). They look fine, if more worn than at a track that flows more.

It's not just the surface being very grippy, there are a few corners where you highly load up the suspension, and these corners last a while. You definitely want to be aware of how much you're scrubbing unnecessarily.

If you had the luxury of dropping on a set of tires of choice, I'd pick something durable and inexpensive. Who cares how 'fast', in any case - it takes a while to figure out the complex layout anyways.

Cool track...

Have fun!

Best,

Matt

Matt, thanks for your insights - helps to explain the tire wear issue.

Yeah, wear is pretty high. This is a brand new tire with about 200 minutes on track, cruising, not killing it.

I stand by my recommendation above - run cheap tires and have fun!

Cheers

Matt

Yep, I've been to Calabogie numerous time and I find tire wear to be about 30%-50% higher than Tremblant. As Matt is explained its a combination of track surface and corner types. Its much different than tremblant but that's fun of trying a new track. Calabogie will definitely benefit smooth driving where and it's not all about horsepower because there are so many slower corners that require precision and in some case patience (that's why one of the most difficult IMHO corners to master is temptation). All to say bring extra tires. On the Calabogie website there is a detailed analysis of the track by Kees Nierop with Porsche.
