Any ideas why Porsche is testing this at the Ring again?

My theory: Maybe there's a lighter weight, higher energy density battery they're going to sell as a retrofit with firmware update to retake the ring record. Yours for $100K!

Did they make it under a 6:52 with the new tires?

For sure. The track is faster than the original time, plus tires.

Conspiracy minefield
1) buoyed by RL confidence, frank walliser demands a lap in the 6:40's 2) battery gen 2-3-4 testing: cooling/regen 3) new turbo 918 gen2 mule 4) tire testing for GT2RS (same size tires) 5) gen 5-6 PCCB 6) PASM software update 7) it's not a 918 it's a panamera coupe 8) F it, lets party 9) v4 hybrid 919 engine development 10) new transmission tech 11) testing The Linton Lightweight 911R componentry 12) manual transmission 13) mid engine 911Turbo test mule 14) upward exhaust mods to pass sound at Laguna |

Porsche usually takes the "last generation one league up" as a reference point for testing.
When I was at Porsche and they were developing the GT4, they always took at 997.2 GT3 to Nardo in order to compare performance. Quite sure that they take the 918 as a reference point for the GT2 RS. |

Did anyone see the vid of the Mac P1LM do 6:43!?!! There's only going to be 5 of them produced, so it getting the record for "Production" Cars is kind of a stretch, but the LM is street legal, so...So how about Porsche go ahead and FINALLY offer up a 918 RSR like was rumored years ago. Let's see this become a 100 car ring burner special edition car and get down into the 30's! For those who don't know the car I'm referring to, this was the 918 RSR car that never came to fruition. I have to say, it sure was a GORGEOUS concept car, I just love how the doors open too!
