918 tire pressure
#17
The tire's rolling resistance is also going to decrease at higher pressures, leading to slightly higher mpg. I wouldn't be surprised if Porsche used a high "standard" pressure to game CO2, mpg and range, possibly even on a regional basis, which could be leading to some of the inconsistency?
The lower pressure numbers will provide better grip and feel, however, so it's a no brainier to set the press cars that way. At low pressures I'd only expect issues with sustained very high speed running, which will bring the car's downforce into play to increase tire flex and hence heat buildup. While in theory you might slowly overheat the tire, in practice it seems quite possible that the tire pressure would climb due to the heat and essentially self-correct. I suspect actual overheating would require very extreme conditions if you start at 30/33 cold.
