Acquired the dream over a year ago. Figured y'all might enjoy these photos.
p.s. I saw the flipped 959 under the knife at Porsche Classic in Germany last year. It is still missing its roof.

Very technical question:
Is there a specific equipment code for the Euro 959 S?
I mean, the US 959 Sport have their specific VIN range, but the Euro ones are mixed with "regular" Comfort 959s. How to distinguish them from the equipment codes?

(photo above rear area of a EURO sport)
(photo above rear area of a USA sport)
(photo above door panel of a USA sport, note the indentation to accommodate the roll cage)
The USA sports were given thier own sequence out of the normal allotted sequence for the 959 VIN #'s, so if you look at the last six digits:
900249
900250
900251
this then skips to
900263
this then skips to
900276
so vin#'s in between those would then be reassigned to the USA sports with the last 6 sequences beginning with 9-0-5...
so, those VIN#'s would go in sequence from 905001 all the way to 905030 (which most people believe to be the last USA sport, which is not true... but that is confidential information)
so, VIN# aside...the other way is by the option codes: the Auto leveling system would not be in either USA sports or EURO sports. BUT, The Shock Dampner system would be in the EURO sport. Another option found in the EURO-Sport, as well as regular "KOMFORT" models, would be the radio. In contrast, there is an option that would not be in the EURO sport, but you would find in the USA sport, and that is the addition of the power windows (they put this in to accommodate the Roll Cage, there was no separate code to indicate the Roll cage, but we have to assume that is why they gave the USA sport the separate vin designation with the 9-0-5.... Vin's. The USA sports could also be gotten with an Air Conditioning system, no EURO sports had A/C
There are other "Special" features of sports:
-MIRROR: Most came with a single mirror, there are both EURO and USA sports that had dual mirrors, and there are also KOMFORT models that had single mirrors
-HARNESS: USA sports had 4 point harness that attached to the rear parcel shelf, EURO sports had the 4 point harness that attached "thru" the rear parcel shelf
-REAR SEATING: EURO sports and USA sports had different "rear seating" areas (see photos attached)
-DOOR POCKET: Due to the roll cage, the USA sports door panel pocket was "indented" to accept the roll cage, while the EURO sports had the normal door pocket
to summarize:
USA Sports:
vin# 9-0-5-X-X-X (last 6 digits of VIN#)
651 electric window option code
573 Air Conditioner (optional, not all had it)
EURO Sports:
vin# 9-0-0-X-X-X (last 6 digits of VIN#)
103 shock absorber adjustment option code
330 Cassette-radio option code
EURO Sport vin #'s
900003
900004
900005
900006
900017
900018
900107
*only 7 are known
please note: there may be discrepancies, but at the time of this post, these are not known to me.
Hope this helps!

I look into the PET and discover some interesting things about the Sport /Komfort differences:
- Suspensions
- Power steering pump
- Back lining
- Generator
- Starter!
- Battery.
- Fuel return line

I thought i would post this to revive the thread:
1986 IAA car, also labeled "gruppe b" until the change seen in this photo, where it was labeled "959" for the first time. Note: the single mirror, lack of headlight washers and the wheel vane
cutaway of the wheel vane
pre-production wheel to accommodate the wheel vane and telemetry equipment
ahem....the actual original wheel vane!!
the back of the part is original porsche item, with a part#
actual original wheel vane on pre-production wheel
wheel vane, pre-production wheel (on right), production wheel (on left)
more to come on this in the future....
