I suppose I should do some updates to this epic thread......
Last Sept, took it on a road trip from Vancouver to Indianapolis, the Brickyard, for the Porsche Sports Car Together Fest. About 2400 miles one way.
After crossing the CAN/US border and drove past Washington into Idaho, had to stop by the Coeur d'Alene lake side.
Knocked out over 700 miles the first day, ended up at Butte Montana for the night.
Wouldn't you know it, it was a mining town and has an attraction right there, the Berkeley Pit
Next day we sort of took it easy, and only made it to Rapid City South Dakota. But just before that was Sturgis, the famous motorcycle town, had to stop by for a visit!
And what's famous in South Dakota? Mount Rushmore. Even if it means going West instead of keep going East, we had to pay a visit for sure.
A 918 with a BC plate showing up at Mount Rushmore. Think there were more people looking at my car than the 4 figureheads that day.
Now heading East again, as it happens, I spotted a sign for Ellsworth Airforce Base. HAD TO DO IT. Home of the B1-B bombers. Can't miss for sure.
So there we are.
In person the B1-B is just as impressive as seeing pics or watching Youtube videos of it.
Bonus pic of the B-52.
One more bonus pic, this time it's the B-29
Now for the next 50 miles or so, we keep seeing signs for a Wall Drug Store. We have no idea what it is but since there are so many signs, we had to stop by and have a look. So we ended up at Wall South Dakota.
it was mostly quiet here, think most folks don't recognize what it is, some asked what Ferrari is that and that's about it. One guy same the badge and come by to say nice Porsche, and asked how much is it worth. I gave him 2 fingers, he was like 200k? I replied 2 million. He spilled his drinks. Oops.
Continue driving East, and we ended up at De Moines Iowa. About a 630 mile day, but with the earlier Mount Rushmore detour, it's another 700 mile day basically.
Next day is the easy day, only need to drive about 470 miles to Indianapolis, and we get to arrive early enough to have a sit down dinner.
Wouldn't you know it, when I arrived, a 918 that I know was parked front and centre.
And yes, I kept all the dead bugs this whole time. I was offered a mobile detailing at the Marriott to get the ca cleaned up before showing up at the Brickyard, but I turned it down, wanted to keep all the dirt and stuff on.
Mission accomplished. Made it there in one piece. While there are 2 918s at the gathering, most were talking about mine, they see the plate and some wondered where was that, they googled then were amazed how far the car had come from, and with all the bugs and dirt, they concluded a nut job and driven it all the way there.
I know that cause I was just standing there looking and listening, pretending to just be another one of the thousands of attendees.
The car is locked but if I am around it, I opened it up and get a whole bunch of kids to sit in it and take pics. so nice seeing their happy faces.
Car is fully clear bra-ed, and also the inside exposed carbon, so nothing can get scratched really.
Highlight of the whole trip, and the purpose of me driving the damn thing all the way across most of North America........getting the car to do laps at Indy!!
A sea of Porsches!!
Fun fact about this trip, we keep driving East so the time zones keep changing, my buddy who was in the car with me was looking forward to having sit down dinner instead of McDonald's. But when we thought we arrived in time, the time change strikes again, for some reason restaurants keep closing at 9pm. We ended up keep having MacDonald's for dinner. And he is such a BBQ freak, we keep doing BBQ for lunch every day!!
When the event at indy ended, I was planning to drive back, but due to timing I had to get back home a day before scheduled driving arrival time, so I had to ship the car back from Indy, and because of the damn border, I ended up shipping the car to Atomic80 instead of home.
I have to say, Atomic80 does the BEST detail job!!
First word out of his mouth when he received the car, your f-ing car is f-ing dirty!!! I was like yeah I know 🤣
He had to clean it, he can't stand the dirt and bugs.
And as it happens, he got to keep the car for like 3 weeks as I didn't have time to make it to Seattle to grab it. He 'babysit' my car during that time.........
Let's just say he went places with my car..............

@mooty and all those that wonders, 2019 didn't do much with the 918, 2020, 2021 was stupid COVID years. This was my 2022 trip. Porsche made an epic car in the 918 and I am doing epic road trips with it.
This year I am taking it on a road trip to Rennsport Reunion again!
Heading to Monterey from Vancouver and then back. haven't planned out the route yet.
And for those that was wondering, the car is up to 15,000 miles. Trouble free 15,000 miles. My 918 has been to 15 states and 2 Canadian provinces, still adding to that total. Gonna have a sticker made with all 17 state and province flags to be ready for Rennsport. Those are proper big western states, not the Mickey Mouse East Coast states!!!

And I'll echo Nick's words yet again...it really was that dirty! It took me a while to get it as clean as I could get her! I think I actually washed her multiple times during my care so now I know about her every curve, even her hidden ones. I'll let you guys figure out what that means.
Thanks Nick for entrusting her to my care during its stay down here in the states. She definitely got a proper "send off" during her round here. I look forward to maybe caravaning with you and others down to Rennsport next fall.
