Delays in 918 Spyder deliveries...

I have been hearing rumors of unexpected delays in previously scheduled deliveries of 918 Spyders. A source tells me that only 5 918's have been delivered to date in the US, one in Canada and 25 in ROW! So that would be around 31 918's worldwide to date that have actually been delivered to customers.

A few minutes ago, a Rennlister posted the following at another thread...but I have no way to confirm yet it's veracity.

Not sure you have heard but the 918 now has a stop sale. 6 key parts are defective. Porsche quality is just getting to be piss poor. Maybe they should get bought by GM or Toyota.

I will contact David Donohue to see if he can comment on the subject matter. Given the bad publicity of the 'Stop Sale' on the 991 gt3 (Rennlister Clocked is one of those gt3 customers affected & he is obviously not a happy 'Porsche' camper at this point!), I hate for these types of rumors to start re: the 918 without confirmation from reliable sources inside PCNA or PAG.

If anyone else has information on this matter, please let us know.

Thank you for the information Eduardo, I also have sent a request for information.

Thanks Eduardo. I'm anxious to hear what you find out.

Something is indeed going on. I will wait to disclose it until I officially hear back from David Donohue, the new 918 Client Relationship Manager at PCNA. I have sent him an email with all the information that I (and a few other Rennlisters here at this forum who have contacted me!) know as of this hour...and which is also available to the general public on the internet if you look in the right places!

But, as a courtesy to Porsche, I first want to give PAG & PCNA an opportunity to tell us something official before we proceed further re: this delicate topic of discussion.

My source was a dealer that just delivered one and had to tell the customer to return it due to stop sale. Glad I passed and I passed due to the GT3. I figured if they couldn't get a new engine right, how were they going to get brand new technology correct.

Ferrari have any stop sale with the LeFerrari- don't think so.

It is indeed true. After reading this, I emailed my dealer and below is his reply:

"That was the case but just a precautionary measure as per the supplier of the part for the rear suspension. It was posted last week, but I just got word today that the flood gates have reopened and cars are now on the way again and okay. So let the rumor mill know....it is looking good now. Porsche was just being proactive to make sure there was no issue."

My communication with David Donohue yesterday confirms this.

Thank goodness. I don't think that I could stand another 6 months of Porsche bashing from the haters!

Stop Sale for the 918 is true.

Bulletin states: "Affected Equipment: Inspection of lower trailing arms for rear axle and replacement as necessary."

Not sure if deliveries have re-started. I work at the dealership level.

Mine has been delayed two months due to the supplier issue....

I just heard back from the CEO of Porsche Canada yesterday regarding my car, it will be completed in the week of Sept 14th. That means the production has slipped about a week or so.

Z356 08-02-2014 05:45 PM

David Donohue got back to me two days ago and said: "It's such a small deal, it's stupid...I think I can tell you the whole story, but let me check first."

So while we wait for David to tell us the 'whole story', I received an email today from a current 918 deposit holder with this information who contacted his dealer on Saturday, August 2nd: "I just got off the phone with my Porsche Salesman. He said, as of yesterday the "Stop Sale" has been lifted, per a Gary Butcher at PCNA...The problem with the rear trailing arm apparently only effected one of the five cars already in the US, and, a correction is in the works for that owner. Approximately 30 more cars are in various stages of production, beyond where the trailing arms are installed, and are being tested to verify compliance. Once they are cleared or repaired, these cars will be released."

I'll let you know if David is able to give us more information on the problem PAG encountered re: 918 Spyder and which caused this rather short-lived 'stop sale'. But it doesn't appear to be very consequential...thankfully!

Well Porsche knows one of the 6 cars delivered to North America was defective, they are not sure about which one so all 6 gets inspected.

It didn't affect the stockpile they had in the factory nor the ones on the production line.

Porsche is offering rides in the 918 at Monterey.
