So it looks like dealers are the biggest buyers of these cars and all they are doing is speculating that the future values keep rising and rising.

Not commenting on whether or not that's actually the case, but, this is literally the definition of a speculative investment bubble.

I laugh when I see a good exotic collector's car being auctioned at one of Mecum's Auctions in the midwest between the big auctions and 90% of the time the cars sell at a good discount to what their true possible value!
It kind of erked me when Mecum went with NBCsports and Barret Jackson signed with Velocity. There was a point when it seemed, on TV, Barret Jackson was the only game in town with his January Auctions and then Reno. But when I lived in Reno I heard there was a lot of nepotism going on with which cars Jackson would choose - especially for the January auction. But over the past several years Jackson has been losing auction share to other American Style Auction house's. More so Mecum than any other I suppose. Isn't RM an American company that uses the English style of auctioneers? I think when an individual has a rare car from a European Marque the individual's bidding on a multimillion dollar car prefers the European Style of Bidding and Auctioneering as opposed to the "Giddy-Up" American style that is used at auctioning at Mecum's and Barret. I'm not saying that those methods are bad it's just every situation has it's place.
