Mike that is a beautiful picture. Excellent color choice!

BTW the cops here in Ontario say they have radar detector detectors . . . Is the V1 one of those that can be detected???????

Hi Mike,

is there a difference between the 73 signal yellow and yours (68-72)? I just bought a '73 signal yellow 911 I am restoring. I had a 996 in signal yellow (sorry copied you there..) which I bought from Bruce. It is my absolute favourite color! My GT1 was very close (used a PPG school bus yellow code) to it.

Was good seeing you the other day in Mt. Adams.

Jochen,

Wie gehts? It was great to see you, too.

I'm absolutely sure that if the door jam paint code plaque on your 911 says 114, it is exactly the same color, signalgelb. While I posted '68-'72 as the time frame for Signal yellow in Porsche's lackfarbe portfolio, I admit that I'm not a completely competent historian. That is how I remember what Chuck Stoddard told me from his memory when I bought my first car in that color from him.

There is a web site of Porsche Farbcodes (click me) that lists signalgelb-114 as only being available in modelljahre '71-'73. This web site claims to have "Farbcodes & Bezeichnungen der Porschemodelle von 1956 bis 2oo2."

Another web site from England (click me) (look for "911 Colour Guides" at the bottom) shows Signal Yellow (114) being available as early as '66 as a special order color. These year-by-year charts seem to be more in keeping with what Chuck told me decades ago.

I saw an original 911/RS 2.7 at an Arthritis Foundation concours five or ten years ago in Signal Yellow, but I can't remember if it was a '72 or '73. It could have been either from what the web resources indicate.

So, it looks like I'll have to modify my color history for signalgelb to be, "officially", '66-'73.

Good luck on your restoration project.

Tchuss!
