CGT Oil Change
This text was posted on Ferrarichat. Does anyone here have comments?
"Porsche out does Ferrari!
Well, I knew that with this title, the thread would get a lot of looks
But I'm not interested in being flamed. This concerns repair costs. I was talking to the Porsche Service Manager today and he mentioned that they were starting to get a few Carerra GT’s in for oil changes and scrapped front ends- that car is LOW.
An oil change is easily over a grand. It turns out that to get to the oil pan you need to unscrew 128 screws of different sizes, so each one needs to be color coded by the Service Tech.
To replace the front underside clip will cost an owner a cool 40K-when the part comes, which will be in about 18-24 months.
Don’t know if these stories are true but this is a major dealer whose Service Manager usually is a straight on guy.
If so, I would say that Porsche has out-Ferrari’d Ferrari when it comes to maintenance."

Knowing Porsche it's hard to believe that an oil change needs the removal of 128 bolts. This should be easy to check.

I spoke with my dealership tech regarding this. He has been to Atlanta for the GT training and has done one vehicle so far. Total cost came to a little over $800.00 @ $150/hr labor. He says there are two main reasons for the added expense. One is the jacking up procedure for the vehicle. There are special ramps and tie downs that must be utilized in order to get the vehilce into the air. This is a time consuming process and must be exercised with extreme care. The hardest aspect of the job is pulling the underbody panels off the vehicle. There are quite a few carbon panels that screw into the carbon monocoque. These must be removed by hand to avoid damage to the monocoque, and carefully torqued during reinstallation. He said there were quite a few screws to be removed, but 128 seemed like an exaggerated number.
