A few questions to no one in particular -- not picking on GMG but really the whole auto parts industry:
I like the sound of "forged", but unless the material and heat treat is specified, it becomes a meaningless marketing term. Just saying aluminum doesn't really get one very far either. 7075-T651 or an actual AMS spec would give the prospective buyer a heck of a lot more confidence.
Close after the material spec is the finish spec. All manufacturers offer nothing but silence on this one. There's no way of knowing if these wheels would last a New England winter. It'd be nice to have a guesstimate on how much effort the manufacturer put into protection against corrosion.
"light weight and exceptional strength" - again, without numbers, these claims are meaningless. The word "exceptional" has a very specific meaning, and marketeers don't know it. I ignore all claims that aren't backed up with numbers.
Besides, weight and strength are seldom important to the automotive engineer. Rotational inertia, stiffness in key directions, and fatigue resistance all matter far more than static measures. Funny how manufacturers don't bother to market their superiority in the factors that matter with real numbers.
"built to come out to the edge of the fender". hmmm. that doesn't jive with the "direct bolt on replacement" claim. A TRUE replacement has the same offset and key dimensions. If you're changing offset, then you're changing steering geometry and hence messing with Porsche's tuning. Granted, some people don't have a clue, but those of us who do will want to know the EXACT offset dimensions.
Finally, a gripe about spoked wheels that were designed by a kid on a computer instead of an engineer tasked with maximum performance with minimum mass and material use: it is far better to have the number of spokes equal to a multiple of the number of lugs. Anything else is wasted material and weight. 5 lugs means you should have 5, 10, or 15 spokes depending on your manufacturing capabilities. Anything else is suboptimal, and it doesn't look as good either.
/end rant.
