Default Roof rail system - can not be installed aftermarked nor by dealer

If Porsche Macan is the same as the Cayenne, order your car with the roof rails as they can not be installed aftermarket nor by your dealer. It is only a factory installed item.

Only if you care for them . In my 24+ years of driving on two continents, I used the roof rails for about few months when carried bikes on the top of a car. I would not load a bike on the top of my Macan.

I also never use them, and don't think much of them visually, so I'm also not ordering them

Why not order the ski bag instead?

I use them on my Cayenne for a roof cargo box when we go on vacation. I find them useful. You can order the cross bars after the fact if you have the rails installed. I will probably get them when I order a Macan in a couple of years.

+1... it's true, you can't install them aftermarket. I guess you could get them for looks only, as you would have to use 2-sided tape to adhere them (but could not put any load on them). Factory-installed, they will be mounted into the sheetmetal providing the sufficient strength to support [IIRC] approx 200 lbs.
Because of this, I'm ordering it for all of our stock Macans for inventory.

From the order guide:
•High quality roof rails finished in an aluminum look [or painted in Black] and styled to match exterior design
NOTE: Roof rails are required for installation of the roof transport system. Roof rails only available as a factory installed option

Australia is doing the same. All stock macans in Australia will have:
- panoramic roof
- 20" SportDesign wheels for S models
- 21" Turbo Design wheels for Turbo
- aluminium roof rails
- SportDesign side skirts
- brushed aluminium interior trim
- Sport Chrono package

I can't understand why I would want the rails for looks only, they take away from the beauty of the car. As far as stock inventory, good think I don't plan to buy one off the lot

I think that they compliment the lines of the car, particularly if you do black rails on white. But each to their own, that's why Porsche gives you so may option choices if you order custom.

I would definitely get the roof rails. Probably Thule on the crossbars.

For long trips it would be nice to keep maximum room inside the vehicle especially with a pair of 189cm powder skis with more the 130mm under foot.

If you're following this thread, please take a look at the notice I just posted on roof rail availability (lack thereof):
https://rennlist.com/forums/porsche-...et-launch.html
Unfortunately the solution may be to take a later allocation. We'll see what the supplier offers.

With the quality racks that Thule manufactures, it makes no sense to have Porsche permanently install rails for the one or two occasional times you might put something on the roof. Thule racks are solid, and they can be completely removed when you don't need them.
