sorry but if the Macan gets the PDK & the Cayenne is stuck with another round of the old auto slush box, then Macan wins hand down.

all this engine hp talk is secondary to the question of which transmission is going to land in these new ones imo

The reason the Cayenne doesn't get PDK is that its not up to towing duty. A fairly large percentage of the Cayenne owners do some form of towing.

While you might not like an old "slush box" for sportiness, you can't beat them for towing. Porsche wants the Cayenne to remain a "real SUV" with offroad and towing capacities.

rubbish - they don't put it in the Cayenne because they couldn't meet the demand and they make more $ off the current tranny.

The information above came from a Porsche Engineer.

Where did you get yours from

The torque multiplication of a torque converter is awesome for towing.

So...you think Porsche redesigned the ENTIRE vehicle, including an all new 8 speed auto and they skipped the PDK because that was somehow more profitable?

I would say keeping the towing capacity so that people could tow their race cars, Airstreams and power boats is going to sell more cars! Porsche knows exactly what they are doing by keeping a torque converter in the mix. The PDK just isn't up to towing duty.

If you want a sports car Porsche offers those too!

Not to mention the PDK would probably feel quite abrupt trying to slowly creep over logs and rocks when offroading!

Our lot at work has a 955, 958, a hyundai somethingorother, a nissan suv and a subaru. When the 955 leaves no one can tell which one is the porsche.

silly this.

Cole is correct.

Having said that it would be nice if the Cayenne was available w/ a PDK option for those who dont off road.

Now back to the Macan. It looks nice especially the rear lights. it way better than the C's. Lets hope thats changed for 2015.

There is an option now its called the Macan. Sounds like a great differentiator.

Btw, those rear lights are just render's IMO and nobody has seen the real lights yet. That magazine is photoshop. But likely going to be similar.

Maybe, will consider Macan Turbo, but need to see it and drive it... luv the speed, would like to see PDCC and PSE (may not be possible with Turbo) options available... would like to see mileage/range and roominess in cabin (front/back/storage... probably similar to Q5)... the amount of cabin room in the Cayenne, one of the best hidden features and in general the roominess/luxuriousness/features make the cayenne one of the best luxury vehicles on the market!

No, I think it's merely a case where he is working with a bunch of less fortunate folk who have seen the opportunity to take cheap shot. The cheaper brands mentioned as being owned by all these people basically says it all...

I wouldn't be surprised to see PDK in gen 2 Cayenne if not the next model cycle due 2 years after. I have found the auto in our cayenne diesel quite slick and relatively intuitive, particularly in Sports C but knowing Porsche they will always find a way of raising the bar. I do hear you on the towing though regarding the initial take up with a pdk but that said their latest version is quite incredible so you never know what it may be capable of or how it could be tuned to accommodate for a towing application.
