Default Online software update / Porsche connect services expiration

My 2021 Macan Porsche connect services are about to expire for Navigation plus. I have decided to not renew as I don't think we will miss it. I have also never activated the " online software update" because I was never really sure what it achieved.

My questions are:

1. What does the online software update achieve? Does it alter anything besides PCM functions ( vehicle drive , auto start stop etc.)?

2. Should I activate this update before the Navigation plus expires or does this feature remain available even after the expiration of navigation plus?

Thank you!

Mmm, interesting - I guess I will need to figure out if I keep with that soon!

To be honest, I have had two upgrades I believe - one for PCM and one for navigation. Did it make a difference? Really couldnt notice! I dont believe that the update does much to the operation of the car, but of course, if anyone knows better, please correct me. As for navigation updates? Yeah, I have used the inbuilt nav maybe 5 times in 8 months. Its good and I like it, but just find CarPlay easier and faster. As we are getting in the car, one of us is searching up the destination - click a link and Nav is ready to go. CarPlay hooks up in a minute or two (that should be better, but we do just use wireless for that) and thats it. Easy. Works for us. I think if possible I would keep the online Connect services, but drop the Nav update, but I am sure you cant do that. I dont know, probably will end up paying it.

Now the BMW connected services - yeah, that I could drop. Never had an update and all we get is constant nags about services. Its nice to have a reminder, but seriously, does it need to pop-up all the time on the phone AND get emails constantly AND then magically find that they have booked an appointment for you? Yeah, that can go....
