So now that the electrical gremlins seem to have taken a break I managed to start on some of the mods that were topmost in my dissatisfaction list; access to the oil plug and the irrelevant backup lights. Having the lift for a few hours this morning I managed to complete the first one.

Removed the skid plate and cut out a 4 inch diameter hole

Location of drain plug (it's a Torx)

Got a furniture moving rubber/felt plug and etched a groove into it so it will catch the skid plate. The felt part I painted black

The rubber part will be facing the plug. Now with a simple plastic panel removing tool I can remove it to change the oil and replace it when done. Years from now if it wears I still have 3 in reserve as I don't have any 3 legged chairs :-)

I'll see if I can fit a 90 degree Fumoto valve next

I'll be doing tires, filters and oil change in about a month (on all my vehicles) as well as chains etc. on Olga (my skid steer).

In preparation, I've got both straight and 90 degree angle valves ready depending on clearance. I'll keep you posted. Thanx for asking

i can see the benefit in having quick access to the drain plug but how does that help changing the oil filter?

I don't believe I ever said anything concerning the oil filter other than, as it's an Audi engine, the filter is accessible and on top instead of buried underneath.

We lost the Porsche engine but gain accessibility - it's in the same place as in the RS5 and V8 Touareg. 'Course back in the 911 air cooled days, the oil filter was also accessible on the right hand side.

So did the first oil change at near 6,300 miles in preparation for winter. The current Fumoto valves I have do not have the same thread as the Macan, I believe the straight valve would fit but I need different threads. I'll contact Fumoto on Monday and report back. Other than saving a pile of money not exactly rocket science

So according to Fumoto, the model needed is F104S short nipple valve with 18mm-1.5 threads ($28.95) and I added an SH-10 Straight socket ($1.00) for S,SX and BSX valves with 3/8" nipples. Just received them but it will be a while until I actually install them as the next oil change in May next year is my courtesy service so it won't be until Fall of 2021. But for those interested in doing away with washers etc, that's the part number.

But this is for your 2.9L Macan right? Did you ever do a Fumoto valve for your 3.0L?

And the dip-stick tube is near the oil filter. I use a vacuum pump and hose down the dip-stick tube to suck the oil out. It's an easy, quick and efficient method for changing the oil.

I have the 3.0L Macan S and that is the part quoted.

I don't believe it has a dipstick as the minute they went digital aspirating is the only choice and you will never get all the old oil out via suction, not to mention horror stories of folks who broke the hose inside when it jammed.

I'm going to keep monitoring for when you do install the valve then. I had tried before and the one I bought based on their website didn't fit for my 2018 3.0L GTS.

Don't forget that your 3.0L is a Porsche engine and mine is an Audi one and the threads may be different. I specifically asked for a 2020 3.0L and that's what they told me would fit. the F106 didn't fit the Macan nor the RS5 but I believe fit the 08 Touareg. I'll post in a year when I do the next install. OTOH, call Fumoto and if it doesn't fit I'm sure they'll exchange or reimburse you.

For me, it's a matter of always being aware of what's going on with my Porsche. In this case, I own a 2018 3.6L TT Macan. Every 5,000 miles I drop the belly cover, get a good flashlight and inspect the drivetrain from underneath. Oil leaks go down; not up. That's how I found the timing chain leak as I preparing to do my 30K oil/filter/spark plug changes.

Agency dropped the engine and while out they dropped in my new plugs I had purchased. They also gave me a new belly pan at no cost. And, as someone has already mentioned, how do you get to the oil filter without dropping the belly pan?
