Default New 2018 Demo vs 2017 Used

I am seriously considering a Macan GTS.. currently there is a "new" 2018 GTS for sale with ~4.2K miles for $77K

There is also a 2017 GTS with ~23K miles for $59K; it is not certified.

Options are similar... new is Night Blue, 207 is volcano grey. Both have the 21" Sport Classic wheels which are my top choice.

I am struggling a bit with if the new is worth the price difference. Is there something else I should be thinking about?

New GTS Options:
- Leather Interior in Black with Alcantera
- Roof rails in black
Sport Design Mirros
Nav
Porche Connect Plus
Sport Chrono
Sport Classic Wheels
BOSE
Entry and Drive
Panoramic Roof
Seat Heating Front and Rear
MSRP $87,150

2017 GTS Options:
PORSCHE TORQUE VECTORING PLUS (PTV PLUS), 14-WAY POWER SEATS, WHEELS: 21 SPORT CLASSIC IN EXTERIOR COLOR: Tires: 21, SPORT CHRONO PACKAGE, CONNECT, PORSCHE ENTRY & DRIVE, VOLCANO GREY METALLIC, LANE CHANGE ASSIST (LCA), FRONT SEAT VENTILATION, SPORTDESIGN SIDE MIRRORS, CARGO MANAGEMENT, SIDE BLADES IN EXTERIOR COLOR. Porsche GTS with Volcano Grey Metallic exterior and Black interior features a V6 Cylinder Engine with 360 HP at 6000 RPM*. Non-Smoker vehicle, Local 1 Owner Car.

You have a conundrum on your hands. A Demo means no telling who was driving it, how they were driving it and how many were driving it. I was given a Macan loaner for 4 days just this week. It had ~4200 miles on it. It was clean, seemed in good shape and I didn't rag on it. It wasn't mine. But I don't know about the other drivers that put on the previous 4200 miles before I got it. It's a crap shoot. But, it's under the manufacturers warranty for a few more years. BTW, you never mentioned if it has 14- or 18-way seats. My loaner had 14's. Mine has 18's. I really disliked the 14's. But that's me.

Now the Macan that has ~23K on the odometer, I would ask how many owners did it have. I'd be looking at a copy of ALL Porsche dealership service records, Carfax and Autocheck. Any major or repeating issues? Where was the Macan during its ownership? Up north with salted roads? In Houston during Harvey? Plus, you'll need to drop several thousand dollars for a warranty that has 15K more miles on it than the Demo.

Keep us posted.

Great thoughts, thanks. The demo was used by a Porsche technical specialist who goes around the area fixing complex issues. Now I don’t think that means it wasn’t ragged on... just what I heard. Honestly I will also rag on whatever I buy so maybe not a huge problem. Just feels like the price difference between the two is pretty big.

Should have done more research before I posted... found the 2017 has about 8K in less options and has a "damage report" on the carfax. While I realize the damage report could be minimal / nothing it does give some sense of pause buying a car sight unseen.

2018 GTSs around the Chicago area are in the ballpark for the new one... that is the direction I am leaning.

Congrats on your purchase. I’ve seen your new GTS on the showroom floor at Porsche of Rochester. Beautiful car! Great color. When I inquired about it they considered it "new", as you noted and was a PCNA corporate vehicle, with 4000 plus miles, and 6 months off the warranty. They didn’t seem interested in offering much of a discount considering it wasn’t truly ‘new’. If you don’t mind would you PM me what you end up paying for it? Thanks.

For whatever reason I cannot PM you.

Glad you like the color, I am looking forward to seeing it in person. I believe I got the full warrenty and they came off the listed price such that it is competitive with my local dealership selling a similar (higher MSRP) 2018 Macan GTS used but certified with 4300 miles for $79K (pre-negotation). I got mine a bit less than that. The reality is that there are few GTSs out there and fewer still with Dark Blue exterior and black interior which I really wanted. So at this point I am just happy to have it.

Did they certify the car and give you the extra two year warranty with the car?

Since you're picking it up tomorrow, make sure you get in writing when the warranty started. The reason I say that is once the dealership puts the Macan into service and uses it as the corporate demo, the Porsche warranty started. And after all this, we demand pics!

Thanks, got everything in writing, it was a great dealership experience.

Just got home after 600 miles and 9 hours. Mix of weather but the car is great.

Not many pictures yet but will get more posted soon, here is the Macan when I picked it up. I am excited about the purchase, it is really more than I expected and was surprised with how comfortable it was for a long drive.

Few pics after today’s wash. Have put about 800 miles on it, great car. Love the balance of utility and sport.
