Default the future of macan

Porsche has announced that in the not too distant future, all Macans will be electric. On one hand seems economically foolish given that the Macan is Porsche's best selling vehicle. On the other hand, it may just be a way to allow for Porsche to keep selling gas powered cars by changing the calculous for future corporate fuel and emissions averages.

It also could explain why the 2019 power plants offerings seem to be regressive. I may have to trade my S for a GTS or Turbo in the meantime just to enjoy what this amazing vehicle offers while there is still time.

If the Macan lineup going all electric can keep ICE Carreras, Caymans and Boxsters in the pipeline, then I'm okay with that.
But selfishly, today's news makes me love my 2017 Macan GTS even more.

I'm glad I'm an old fart because I don't want to be around when the only thing you can buy is a fast fancy golf cart... yeah, my friend's Tesla P85 is fast as hell but has NO soul. Even though it is a SUV, I love the sound of the sport exhaust on my '17 GTS- I'm with you leader...

And the 911 just keeps getting bigger, now so they can have room to add the hybrid system... times they are a changing...

+1, skl! Another old fart here who loves the smell of exhaust gases, fuel and oil! Long live ICE!

I have zero interest in an all-electric Macan at the moment. Once the battery longevity is improved, I would be more open to it, but I think I'd miss hearing the engine and exhaust (and not some fake, piped-in, electronic BS).

I agree, maybe once the range and charging issues are solved (a general problem with all EVs), the ICE Macan will be obsolete but until then I think the ICE Macans will probably hold their value pretty well.

I seriously looked at the Tesla P90D Ludicrous 2 years ago but in the end could never convince myself to pull the trigger. The acceleration could make your nose bleed, but alas it really didn't seem to have much soul, and that Ludicrous launch would become a novelty over time.

As for the notion of an electric Macan, I'm on the fence about it, but agree with everyone here singing the praises of their ICE GTSs and that wonderful sound from the PSE!

Porsche owners tend to take very good care of their cars. I'm guessing that well-cared-for ICE-only Macans (especially those that are garaged) will be around for decades, and that such vehicles in good shape will hold high value for decades.

Big news today:

http://thedrive.com/news/26695/porsc...-gen-ev-report

So the initial word appears to have been incorrect. While I'd still like more confirmation that the ICE-based Macan will continue beyond the EV Macan, I find it much more credible to believe that the ICE-based Macan will continue -- given its huge importance in terms of sales to Porsche.

Count me as the third old fart who likes the smell of exhaust gas.

I don't know about combining the two. One thread is about old farts smelling gasoline. The other thread is about the coming electric Macan.

Agreed. Also, at least in KY, most of the electricity is generated by coal so from an environmental perspective it’s just trading one fossil fuel for another.
