Did you do a lot of off-road driving, or other extreme driving that would put stress on the transfer case?
I did no off-road driving. We have a lake home in Northern Michigan so most of my miles were on the highway.
We do slip and slide in the snow here in the North so that my have put some strain on the transfer cases.

Thank you for the comment!! I work for the Engineering Department of the railroad. Need more space than a 911. As well as moderate off-road capability for occasionally driving along railroad right of way.

how did the paint fair on the 2017 Macan? Selfish reasons for asking of course as we do paint protection, but always curious to hear how different brands and models hold up to long commutes. Any problem areas you saw that got beat up more than others? Especially with the type of weather it looks like you are driving through according to the photo. We have it very similar!

Is the Macan 4cyl motor the same as the Audi/VW 4cyl notorious for burning oil starting at around 80-100K miles requiring rebuild?

Edit: same as Audi 4cyl inline know for bad rings ever since the 1.8L block.

Sapphire Blue Metallic paint was perfect after 54,000 miles.

That's impressive. What was your maintenance routine like?

I have 93,000 miles on my S. I had a transfer case issue around 25,000 miles. It was replaced under warranty. I am over maintaining the car so that helps but last week I had the fuel flap issue, including the emergency cable break, then I had a PDK slipping issue and they replaced the fluid (it was at 65% fill). Then I also had the coolant tank crack, For 93,000 miles, I'd say that it's very reliable.

Has anybody had any transfer-case issues on any newer (e.g., 2018) Porsches? I'm wondering if they have resolved the problem through some fix in the build, or not...

A new part number came mid-way through 2018.

Congrats! I also purchased a CPO 2015 Turbo last year - my commute is 30,000/yr. It has been a flawless road car and I plan to drive it well over 100K!
The only thing I have paid for is DIY Maintenance - oil changes, getting ready for second round of plugs, creeping up on 60K miles and time to replace brakes and summer tires.
The only thing mine has been in the dealer for is PDK service which will be due again in 20K miles.
No issues warranty or otherwise. I am keeping a close eye near the air conditioning compressor and accessory belt - drivers side behind oil pain for leaks - I guess front timing cover gasket leaks are common for these. My sister in law has a leak there, her turbo has ~25K miles.

I averaged about 30000 per year on the Cayenne and it gave me very little problems but it wasn't perfect.
Here's what I consumed in 6 years::
5 sets of tires.(to be expected)
Fortunately my miles were mostly highway so I only needed to change brake pads and rotors once.
1 ignition sensor. It wouldn't start one morning so my dealer had to come with a flatbed truck and get it.
3 transfer cases (including the original) #2 cost $4000 because it was just out of warranty. (#3 was covered by warranty on #2)
1 driver's-side window switch because the silver trim on the original started to de-laminate.
Overall, I was very satisfied with the Cayenne and expect to put many happy miles on my Macan
$4,000 to replace a transfer case is not bad. That is major surgery on your car. I have paid more than that to replace the transfer case on a Jeep Grand Cherokee.

lol!

To the OP, I hope she gives you plenty of miles without too much trouble. My Cayenne sure has needed a lot of work to get it to 84k miles, however it sure has been a lot of fun.

Same way I felt about my '11 Cayenne Turbo. Last summer at 70k miles, I decided it was time to move on and traded for my Macan GTS. In almost a year now the GTS has been flawless, and equally fun.

I test drove a a GTS and they are very cool rides, just wish it had a little more power. I don't start to judge reliability until a car gets close to being out of warranty. I hope it holds up well for you. I decided to put an order in for a Tesla instead of going Porsche again. I couldn't get over the instant power of those electric motors, the torque is insane!
