Hey guys,

Just sharing. I have a 2015 Macan Turbo with about 72k KMs on it. I just took the car to the dealership for analysis and....I need a new transmission.

You guys know why porsche decides to always replace rather than repair?

With the complexity of todays transmissions, I don't think any dealers have the time, tools, skills, or "clean room environment" necessary to do as good a job as the OEM manufacturers. Unless the unit gets sent back to the manufacturer for analysis as to why the unit failed, it gets dumped into the metal recycling bin. Gone are the days of simple three and four speed transmissions that the local AAMCO transmission shop would re-build. The dealer will do fluid and filter changes, simple valve and/or solenoid repairs, but when it gets into the "guts" of the transmission, it is easier and quicker to get a new unit.

I'm guessing that the dealer returns the transmission to Porsche which then determines if the tranny is capable
of being rebuilt. If so, then it gets an overhaul and is recycled back as a rebuilt unit to be installed in a customer's
vehicle.

It's not unusual for parts like this to be 'reconditioned'.

I get the complexity....but if something goes wrong, the cost of replacement is massive; especially out of warranty. Seems silly to not repair than to replace the whole thing.
