I was told I needed a Macan
I originally wanted to get a 991.2, but was told repeatedly that I probably need and am better off with a Macan for my DD needs and small people hauling capacity--so I eventually changed my mind and put in an order for one just today.
Base configuration with front heated seats, front skid plate, smoking package, 18" S wheels, designation delete. Was quoted 3-4 months for the build.
I was looking at the S, but the base seemed perfectly adequate on the several test drives I took it on.

After having a 911 and a Macan, if you can only have one you make the right call. I hate SUVs generally and the Macan is as close to a car as you can get.
We got an S. The bases were not out yet. But we got one for a loaner once and it was still quick.

Race Car
If you were going after a Carrera S why did you not get a GTS of Turbo with everything that pleases you?
It would have cost less, provided nearly as much as "There is No Substitute" Porschiness with no "practical economy car" second guessing. One run with a GTS at a track day would boggle your mind with its capabilities.

There's no real comparison between a 911 and a Macan, different purposes and totally different cars.
I didn't have much faith on the base one but ended buying one for my wife, the car is quick enough to get around town and travel with it. Excellent DD, just don't expect to have fun as you would in a 911.

While a Macan definitely doesn't replace having a 911, it is one hell of a SUV. I've had a Macan GTS since last fall and love it! The thing drives more like a sports car than any other car in its segment. Never drove a base but loved the features that came standard on the GTS. You're going to love it!

Nice positive responses. I REALLY liked it compared to the tepid crossovers available in its class and it's by far the best driving vehicle in its class.
Still hoping that it'll hold me over until I can get a proper 991 or 992 in the next year or two, but can't do so right now.

The 911 Turbo S reminded my wife and I so much of our Macan Turbo that we added a 911 GT3 instead - which is nothing like the other two. If I could swing just one with the kids requirement, hands down it would be a Macan Turbo with the performance goodies.

So no Palladium for me. Porsche refused to fulfill the order... In fact they kinda slashed a bunch of colors from the palette.
Looks like it'll be Night Blue Metallic to stave being stuck with shades of black, gray, and white.

Track Day
I have had a GTS for 1.5 yrs now and its a killer DD, cant really think of anything better. That said I have been seriously considering replacing the Macan with a 991.2 C2S, but every time I get close to doing so, I already feel I will miss the Macan, they really are that good!

The base model is much faster than anything I've ever owned. I mostly got the Macan over a car because of snow and I live off a washboard fire road (paved roads do exist but they're more of a detour and still banged up).
I'm hoping that it's enough "off road" to blast over dirt roads at 40-50mph.
