Default Steering wheel rubbing squeak.

Got my CR Gts about 2 months ago. I have this rubbing noise emanating from steering wheel when turning. Should I just spray wd-40 and see if that helps or go to dealer? Thanks.

If it's new and under warranty, my vote would be go to the dealer.

On my 928, I had a similar problem where the steering column trim was rubbing on the back of the wheel hub when I turned. I had some self adhesive Teflon material and cut a piece the same size as the front of the column trim which is obscured from view by the steering wheel hub. No more squeak.

I will investigate more but it does sound like the trim is rubbing. Thanks folks. Mike

Just FYI: WD-40 is a degreaser not a lubricant. You shouldn't be using it to silence squeaks. In this case it sounds like the teflon tape is a good route to try.

Dealer had to replace my steering column to address my steering squeak. Hope yours is under warranty.

Hey Mark. Was it a high pitched squeak or duller sounding squeak? Will try to take a audio/video of sound. It's a 2018 cr gts. So far only 365 miles on odometer. Mike

Honestly, I can barely remember. I believe it sounded like two pieces of plastic trim being just a bit too close to each other and rubbing. I think there are threads about it on Macanforum.com, which is where I first learned of it before I even purchased my car.

Update. The wd-40 did not work. Another thing is when cold the squeaking noise is very apparent but when warmed up it goes away. Thoughts? Me thinks need a new something. I will schedule an appointment because when cold it's very annoying. Mike

This squeak is a known problem as I went to the deal last week about it. The only fix is replacing the steering column.

If under warranty, get them to replace the steering column. If not, get some of this Teflon adhesive tape like I posted about below and put it on the front of the column trim where the wheel contacts it when turning.
