Brake pads
#16
I have about 300 miles on my Macan and I'm putting ceramic pads on it either this weekend or next. I have them on my 997 and C300 and the dust factor is night and day. My two previous 993's were tracked so I'm sensitive to how the brakes feel and I don't notice a difference with ceramics. I did the swap on the Mercedes after a 100 or so miles so no need to mess with the rotors - dealer though I was crazy but they don't have to clean my cars.

Ceramic pads
For dust issues and fitment availability, I have about 500 miles on a full set of Disc Italia pads on my '10 Boxster S. Very good cold bite, 90% less dust and what there is a light grey. Not inexpensive but recommended.

The pads come with a rough coating on them that has the texture similar to stucco and it is there to bed the pads to the rotors. Instructions say to drive normally without heavy braking for a while and that the pads will produce dust until the break in coating wears off. Also states that they will make noise for 500 miles or so.
So I didn't replace the rotors (which I've always have done with pads in the past) since they had less than 300 miles and I followed the instructions. They were noisy - like I was on track pads. I washed the car this weekend and cleaned off the brake dust which was lighter than normal metallic material but more than my cars with ceramic pads. Also when I clean my cars which all have Ceramic Pro finish I first use a pressure washer before the soap gun. After cleaning there is no more noise. I don't know if there is any connection due to the cleaning and pressure washing the calipers or if the pads are finally bedded.
Brake feel has not changed between pads. The Macan seems to bite harder than any of my current or previous P cars and that has been some 18 years. If there is any more dust than with my Hawk Ceramic or Akebono Euro Ultra Premium Ceramics (which next to nothing for both) I'll post.
