Macan Freak Accident Advice/Info Neededx
Hello Everybody: I am new to this forum but not to the Porsche family. I have a 2006 Cayman S with many trouble free miles and a 2015 Macan S with 30,000 miles. I need your collective advice. I had a terrifying accident yesterday. I was parking the Macan in a parking lot driving at a speed of less than 3-5 mph. Suddenly, the car lurched forward and would not stop. I plowed through five cars. I kept hitting the brake pedal but the car wouldn't stop. Thank God the cars were unoccupied and no one was hurt. I called the police and contacted everyone involved. Needless to say I was mortified. Honestly, I have tried to reconstruct what happened but am at a complete loss to explain how this happened. I contacted Porsche USA and had the car towed to the dealer an evaluation of a brake or accelerator defect. I also plan to hire an auto engineer to sort out what happened. I was also checked out at the ER for any cognitive problems but none were found. I have not had any accidents in fifty years of driving cars and motorcycles. A Porsche service writer told me that the brake and gas pedals are very close to one another in the Macan and some people with big feet have stepped on both pedals at the same time and caused an accident. I have researched the forums and discovered this has happened to a few other drivers.I would appreciate hearing from you if anyone has had this same experience or has an explanation of what happened. Thanks in advance for any help you can provide.

Good luck, Steve. Glad no one was hurt. Most likely driver/operator error. Cut your losses, and just move on with your insurance.

I drive a Panamera GTS and had this happed to me before. Was at the traffic lights, the lights turned green and following few cars at less than 10mph, suddenly the car accelerated but I was able to brake safe. I can assure it was not a driver error. I tried to simulate it many times after that incident but was never able to.
For what’s worth, my car has a dynamic cruise feature but it was turned off at that time and I hardly use it.

The more autonomous driving features we add (i.e. adaptive cruise control) the more I worry about losing control of the car. Not saying this was your problem but you wonder how well this technology has been tested. Hoping it was a one-off event and that you get a new car.

Just curious mostly. Generally standard cruise control doesn't work below a certain speed however ACC should work down to a stop. Have you ever "resumed" speed when you were trying to cancel CC? On the other hand ACC should have active safety which should have automatically applied the brakes.

Long story short: 35 years doing 24x7x365 mission- and life-critical software. ALL software has bugs. ALL software. About 0.001% of the population understands this. About 0.000000001% of executive managers understand this. Be afraid.

The close together and "stepping on the wrong pedal" was the culprit with both the Audi 5000 and Jeep Cherokee unintended acceleration issues back in the 80s. Finding was that the pedal placement, shape, and offset was the problem.

Hi:
This has happened to me twice. Both times I was stopped and shifted into Park. The car took off and there was nothing I could do. It wasn't until I crashed (both times) that it stopped. I assumed it was an error on my part. When it happened the 2nd time, I know for a fact I was parked - I was getting ready to get out of the car and it took off. I'm so grateful I didn't park in front of the restaurant as there were outdoor tables- I could've killed someone. I To whomever said it was driver error and to cut your losses - how do you know? Not all findings have been driver error. It's a lot easier to point the blame at them though.
