Post your fast lap time at VIR

Just wondering what laps people are turning at VIR.

I have tracked my 997 Cup 3 times since I got it so I am still learning the car. I know I have a lot more to learn and there is a ton of time left in it. I think if my balls were a bit bigger I could shave a lot more time off. Haven't broken 2min yet but getting closer.

2006 997 Cup 2.02

tkerrmd 03-23-2017 11:17 AM

thats a good time, my best time in my 996 Cup from qualifying last year was a 2:00 and with a better driver would have been sub 2:00

RSRRacer 03-23-2017 06:42 PM

996 cup 57.7
997.1 cup 56.2
991.1 cup 53.1

all above times pre repave. All slow as hell vs a real pro.

I've heard times are usually in sync with WG, I was running consistent 2:01's last October at a DE on 15 plus heat cycled Pirelli's I know high 1:50's should be well within reach. Check out Rennpoints and you'll see best times broken out my class

1:56-1:58 is a very respectable club racer time in 997.1 cup. Pro's can do 1:54's.

smf32s 03-24-2017 12:18 AM

I'm at 1:54.1 in a 997.2 Cup ex world challenge car. Pre repave too. Love chasing RSRracer.

Should be faster this year by quite a bit I think.

2005 997 cup. Gtc4 car but on hoosier s100 1.54.1

911racer 03-24-2017 09:50 AM

Great job Cory. Wish I was that fast there. I am in the low 1:58's in my 2008 cup. (also on Hoosiers)

Thanks

This thing was pretty quick there on Wednesday! Lots of fun to drive -- esses are flat out in 6th gear. Lap times in the sub 1:45 range.

God i love the look of that 650S ^, How does it compare to the other GT3 cars you've driven?

RobT 394 03-25-2017 09:21 AM

997.2 Cup running in the 1:55 to 1:54 range with best of 1:53.9. This is in better weather. During the PCA ClubRace times tend to drop to the :56 - :57 range as it is usually hotter-n-hell.

I just realized this thread is in the Cup forum and not the other racing forum -- so apologies to everyone for side-jacking it!

The 650S is a lot of fun, but very challenging. I think it's the hardest car to drive at it's maximum limit that I've ever experienced... GT3 or non-GT3. I've been lucky to have extremely fast guys available to help me and whos data they share with me and it's been eye opening to say the least. It's been a long time since I've found a car so challenging and been this far off the pace of the fastest drivers.

The car is clearly VERY fast, but to get that pace out of it is pretty hard. It has a lot of movement in the rear of the car and tons of aero in the front. The straight line speed isn't so good and the small displacement of the engine (even tho it's a Turbo V8) means you have to drive it like an old school turbo car -- with the throttle to keep the turbos spooled up for corner exit while minimizing on-throttle understeer generated in the mid corner. When you get it rite it feels amazing, but the operating window for the car to make a good lap time is the narrowest I've experienced. Over drive it and you go too slow and underdrive it and you go WAY too slow.

Also, the McLaren customer support guys who they send to the track with the team are amazing. Really smart and friendly guys and they send all the drivers PDF's of overlays/data/interesting things they find -- after *every* session.
