Just a note here, 'self supporting' can be less hard or very hard or even an competitive advantage or disadvantage depending on some things:

- Are you racing or just DE or private/open days?
- If racing, what series? How competitive is it? How competitive are you?
- What type of cup? 996 and private days is way different than 991 and racing IMSA.

Code:
Moderate Harder Don't
<-------------------------------------------------------->
996 Cup 997 Cup 991 Cup
DE/Private Days Club Race Pro Race

This is the definitive thread for air fittings as well as smaller capacity tank:

Awesome thread. Just picked up a 997.1 Cup and plan to pro shop prep 1-2x per year and self support at track. Only DE's for me until I get completely comfortable, so a whole different ball game than racing GTC4... Will contribute as I can...

Can we revive this thread for some updates? I'm looking to get into a 991.2 GT3 cup; are these newer models much different than the ones discussed above as far maintenance, self support, cost...? I'm looking on various forums to purchase, anything specific I need to pay attention to? Engine, chassis, gearbox hours used? Like this one for example: https://www.dupontregistry.com/autos...3--cup/2250672
I'm mod/advanced skills, this will be used for weekend track days on the west coast... I do have a support shop when needed... Any advice is highly appreciated.

I do all the work myself on my 991.2 Cup. Thanks to the generosity of others with their knowledge, I've been able to do most of it without any issues.
I will leave the heavy lifting (ie. engine / transmission / fire / compressor rebuild / etc) to the professionals.
I have a 2-post lift and do all the scheduled maintenance after each event, alignment, tires, replaced radiators, brakes, shocks, etc.
Once you register the car with PMNA, you'll have access to a 500 page technical manual. It is a good read.
I have built some tools myself (ie. coolant filling system - see other threads by me). I use CSM Performance hubstands/levelers in conjunction with Intercomp scales to align/corner balance.
If you have any specific questions, let me know. For me, half the fun of ownership of this car is working on it.

You will definitely want to get a knock-off PIWIS 3. So many of the procedures for these newer cars really require it.

I'm in exactly the same boat, and actively searching for a 991.1 GT3 Cup to run exclusively for track days, primarily self supported.
The stated engine and tranny rebuild intervals for the .2 cup are 100 hours and 60 hours respectively. Most on here agree that the engine can go to roughly 150 hours, or until leakdown tests show it's time to rebuild - cost is roughly $20-30k.
Tranny seems to be extremely robust and service recommendations vary. Competitive teams will remove and inspect after every race. Private drivers will let it go 100Hrs + without issue. Rebuild is anywhere from $8-20k depending on what's needed.
So that 2017 is about at the point where you'd be looking at getting some major servicing done.

Do you really need the piwis for the cup? Isnt it just for the street cars and the clubsports?
