Default Need some info/dimensions on 996/997 front uprights

Hello guys,

I have a rather unusual question I guess.

A bunch of guys from Europe and me are creating a car mod of this (rather famous?) 996 Turbo racecar for the sim Assetto Corsa.

Regarding physics we have reached abit of a dead end.

For the physics to work correct we need these measurements of the front upright. Ideally some dimensions for the rear aswell, but as it was modified rather extensively, and even Jürgen Alzen himself could not give me any info, the front is more important.

The front used GT3 Cup based uprights.

If someone has these numbers, or just a few of them to extrapolate, on hand we (mostly my finnish physics guru) would be pretty thankful for any help.

Cheers,
Matthias

We were unsure aswell, but this pic does not look like the AWD upright

That is also NOT a 'standard' or even cup 996 front upright. It COULD be a 996 RSR upright or some 997 variant.

4:06 has some nice video of the right front suspension. Looks like what was used on the RSR (dropped spindle compared to the pic you have from Elephant).

Andrew is correct - those are the cool RSR parts, and as was pointed out this is not AWD - perhaps a GT2 variant and it is a beast.

Before I volunteer for anything, what level of accuracy do you need, and what is your time frame?

@ 4:08 onward it looks like you can catch a glimpse of a half shaft. Certainly it would be hiding behind the steering connection. I think I see the clamp on the CV boot just above the A on the steering link. It helps to watch at 0.25x.

Level accuracy needed is not too great, this is what the coordinates for one suspension point look like (in game script)

WBTYRE_BOTTOM=0.01, -0.128, 0.0

All coordinates are in meters, so measuring with a ruler is fine. You doing it in inch would be fine ofc. I used a 297mm × 420mm blueprint of the stock 996 Turbo before that I measured by hand.

No timeframe really, as soon as possible would be nice, but we have no date of release or anything.

And the car was AWD. I've been in contact with the team owner (Jürgen Alzen), but he neither has much material of it left (it ran 2003 - 2005). Much of it was custom build. The car itself resides on Mallorca in the Mediterranean today.

WRT AWD - my mistake.

Sorry, My stuff is different enough that I wont have meaningful data.

Many of these dimensions are actually adjustable or setup specific:

Caster, shock length, both R & T, certainly H.

Note the part R is the same on the 006 RSR as it is on the 996 and it is not adjustable. on the 997 RSR it became adjustable. Same with the LCA (I think)

Not even some base numbers? I mean we have no actual Porsche data to start from, it's stuff we can't find on the net, and none of us own a Porsche (or have the chance to get near one with a ruler). That's why I turned up here.

Kingpin angle may be the most important.
