Saw this on several rally-cars. You can use the standart GT3-fan to make it work. Never heard about temperature issues on the rally-cars. They just need it for stop&go during the drives on public roads.
Never needed it when I used the Cup on trackdays. Just switch the engine off directly when you stop the car in the pitlane.

Why would you want to idle so long that you risk overheating? (You are also adding to recorded engine hours). I and the other Cup drivers I know just shut off the engine if up to operating temp and the car is not moving. That said, I did use a fan on another track Porsche I had and it worked fine.

Agree plus the 2 minute warning sometimes becomes a 5 minute. I shut off as soon as i get to the grid and start at the 3 or 2 minute mark. Even then, at Sebring, one of the sessions i was getting really anxious as they kept extending it. I did not get to the alarm but it was getting close (quickly)

I added one but have not run on the track with it yet. Managing grid is fairly easy unless the described delay occurs.
Where I found great issue is during the cool down lap after a race, track exit/impound line, and even under FCY. The sudden slowing of airflow seems to make the car get hotter before it gets cooler.

997 cup car rad fans
thanks for all replies managed to get pair fans L&R along with mounting part from breakers (£100) simple job to fit & no need to disconnect any hoses .. remove front bumper / bottom rad spring clips /loosen metal rad mount .. allows plenty play & remove square spacer mount (no longer req )slip in fan +mount ... rebuild .. have tested just thru sep battery supply and engine water temp is now controlled although it takes both fans to achieve .. now just to wire them thru relay and switch and warning light .
