Do you think that it's possible to run the 996 axles on the 08 997 Cup?

If you are asking me, I don't know. It's really hard to compare axle assemblies because the CV's float in length and I can't see the size of the CV hubs, ***** etc.

The part numbers are not the same between 996 and 08 997 but Q&A is right in that Porsche only sells the 997 axles for all the 996 cup cars now. Porsche quoted blacks and blues only 2 days ago but now they are telling us that they aren't available any longer and the 997 axles are the superseded parts that are available now. Sorry for those who responded and sent money.

I received a lot of e-mails already after posting axles prices. To clear some things up, we don't sell street car parts for race cars unless they came that way. We are a Motorsport reseller so I can get anything for all year factory race cars (cup, RSR) that is still available world wide. I even supply motor parts that we source from Weissach directly so ask with part numbers if you need stuff. Lastly, I'm adding the cost of the bolts to the list for axle buyers.

00-08 997 Cup - $3245.37 each
09-12 997 Cup - 3083.54 each
bolts for all years $5.89 each, you need 12x to replace
+ $40 shipping in CONUS, a little more for international shipments

Mark

You might be right but FVD sells them and for both the 996 and 997 Cup GenI they use the same part.
Should be double checked i guess .....

Nothing different? The Gen2 yellow axles have much larger inner CV joints that is immediately noticeable as it also has cooling fins on the outside. The axles do require a new axle flange (light weight...) and washers as it is much larger in diameter. Fit is perfect for a 996 Cup. Installed a set this week after yet another Black axle CV joint broke (packed with Krytox) with 4 hours on it.

We removed prices for 996 axles since Porsche will not supply them any longer.

Ok so the Blue axles are not available at that price. Back to square 1 on what to do for axles.

So where are the failures in the axles happening? Some say axle end and some say the joint?

The Black Motorsport Axles are NLA as well. I even tried to obtain them in Europe.

The black axles people talk about anymore is the 996 Twin Turbo axles after regreasing.

Yes the yellows are Motorsports axles. These are yes over $3k each. But again they DO REQUIRE the drive flange to be changed at tranny. If I get a minute I will take a pic installed.

I have run only the Black Axles (996 Turbo) and have a great deal more than 40hrs on them. The car is serviced after each event and axles are checked. I did regrease them when new with the Krytox grease. The shop that services my car is a firm believer in the Black over Blue for reasons stated previously in this thread. The Blue tend to be brittle. Short of going to an aftermarket high end axle which could run $4000 each axle, I would stay with the blacks. Changing them at 40hrs is probably a good practice and keep a spare or two but you will be money way ahead vs. going with the Blues which theoretically time out at the same amount of hours.

Due to a large amount of requests, we can sell the black 996 Turbo axles for $960 each plus shipping.

If anyone is interested in the Driveshaft Shop Axles, I found a pretty decent discount at one of their larger distributors. Send me a PM for the contact info.
