The K-M-P Paddleshift has an integrated blip function. So you do not use the clutch on downshift. The system has a protection which avoids overreving the engine. This limit can be altered with the programming software.
About the wear. The weakest point from the 997 is the Axial Pinion Bearing, depending on engine power we in general advise to replace this bearing between 30 and 50 hrs racing (wet track conditions will increase the interval). The paddleshift has only little influence on this bearing, but does have a significant increase in life of dogrings and gears. We have seen customers running their dogrings for 100 hrs with no wear. With normal gear lever shift you often see a lot of dogwear on the downshift, this is almost completely reduced with paddleshift.
When you have a 996 the upgrade to sequential and paddleshift is very good to do but expensive. You need to have a sequential gearbox, you need to re-program the ECU to allow for a gearcut and you have to change the wireloom. This is work for specialist (very few people who can change the ECU in a good way)

@Pascal K-M-P: please send a PM, I have been thinking about a paddle shift system upgrade for the 997 Cup sequential gearbox designed by Holinger, your system sounds like a real alternative. Thank you in advance, Christian

joeyK, i have a few links. i cant access my archived email which has them, but i was on it today from my office. ill send tomorrow. the vids are form a gt3R i think from some euro racing. very cool. you see the shift lever actuating itself, he never moves his left foot to clutch , never blips, its simple and sweet. ill send tomorrow.
