Default The long term future for 996 cups

We all know that PMS does not go out of their way to support aging cars so are there any deal breakers in the future or do we resort to using GT3 street car parts?

I don't see a problem getting parts for 996 Cup cars into the future.

If you see a spare tub around, grab it, that's about all that is tough to get.

One huge problem I see is Porsche Motorsport's offer to rebuild 996 cup motors to 450HP. IIRC they called it a "Clubsport upgrade". Obviously that creates a significant HP disparity between cars in a spec class....

I think a lot of shops offer "enhanced" 996 Cup engines, however, PCA is checking the class on a regular basis.

They must have pulled 15 996 Cups at Sebring and went over them with cameras, computers, etc. Unfortunately, they missed a couple that really needed checking

The Porsche Sports Cup series is supposed to do this. Some Porsche Clubs over Europe have already transformed their Club Series to Sports Cup regulation, which basically is factory spec.

The benefits are many, both for Porsche Motorsport who can continue support old vehicles, easier to administrate for organizers and easier to setup and follow a budget for club racers.

Though when I glanced at the parts list for 996 Cup, it seems like some parts have gone more expensive.

Yes, we pulled a number of GTC-3 cars at sebring and I feel confident that the items we checked were compliant with I think one exception. It is possible that some of the cars had modifications to parts we did not check.

Is that PMNA offering or world wide? What was involved in that upgrade and what was/is the cost?

It was a e-mail blast from Porsche Motorsports here in Santa Ana, Calif. They offered discouted rates for cup rebuilds, and offered the HP upgrades...

Any info on how the HP was to be increased?

I'm a little bit curious about this solution also. It sounds as in the ballpark for a 3.8L conversion of the 996 Cup engine.

Remember that for PCA GTC-3/4 classes, the engine must be in the "As delivered for the Supercup series" configuration. These engine upgrades from PMNA will put your car in GTA-1 (996) or GTA-2 (997)

What does this "upgrade" cost?
