Default We Lost 2, 6-Cups at Sears Point This Weekend....

Both were late model 6-Cups that went off on turn 10, a high speed sweeping right hander. The first hit in the rear and side crushing the roof and the complete rear end of the car. The second one flipped upside down after hitting the barriers and spun down the track on it's roof. Both drivers were OK. The driver who went upside down was initially a little shaken but otherwise OK, a testament to the capability of the Matter cage in cunjunction with a Hans device....

We had another more serious wreck when an older 911 rear-ended a tow truck that entered the track to pick up a broken car. Multiple drivers stated that they never saw a white or yellow flag thrown and seconds later this 911 came over the blind rise at turn 8 right into the back of the wrecker. He was cut out of the wreck and airlifted to the local hospital. Word yesterday is that he's going to be OK after some swelling of the brain that has now subsided. His nose is broken and face smashed a bit as he was NOT wearing a Hans or Issac device....

Andy the track was rented to NASA/Porsche Racing Club (PRC), and they sublet run groups to POC and The Yoko Cup Series. Most everyone was running with multiple groups and I'm don't know which car was running in which group when the incidents occured.

The Cups were simply driver error. The 911 was IMHO, multiple errors on the part of the track's crew for not throwing or waving white or yellow flag, and for sending the wrecker out to a obvious blind spot just over a rise in the track. The run session was just completed; they easily could have waited another minute for the track to clear....

It was a fun but sad weekend.

The two cup cars were both wrecked in open practice on Friday. The 911 incident was in the POC run group and happened after the checkered flag. Regardless of what happened the driver is very lucky. I am sure they will sort it out. And just to keep it interesting someone rolled a Mini in the NASA DE as well.
