Default Warning Check your seat mounts

We were just doing the normal after track nut and bolt check and found 2 seat mounts cracked. I will get some pictures of them and post later. It was the mount on the car that cracked where the bolt go thru the slider. The car has never been wrecked and only has 65 hours on it. I am guessing its just from flex in the seat over time. They were both of the rear mounts that had fatigued and actually pushed down somewhat. We are going to weld up the cracks and then reinforce with a steel plate so that hopefully it won't happen again.

Has anyone else noticed this? If so what did you to reinforce the mount area?

Very common, always in the rear, usually left rear behind seat rail.

I had that same one crack, left rear. Put that in your checklist for any cup car or 996 based racecar!

I've worked as Grand Am (04-07) and IMSA (07 only) Porsche chief mechanic. We had issues with the seat rails themselves. Grand Am found so many "loose" seats that it became part of GA tech inspection. I did not find a cracked floor which is what I think Chris was saying. I'd recommend removing the seat rails a couple times a year, cleaning, inspecting and re-lubing them if they are ok. I also used blue locktite on all mounting hardware, and use the proper Porsche bolts to hold the rails to the chassis. Then you should check for loose seat bolts as you do the pre-race prep.
