Cup LSD

Yes, you can buy a complete unit from PMNA which will be an 8 plate version. However, if you install a new LSD housing, you need to set the pinion depth which means that the transmission needs to come apart if the shims need to be adjusted. You can also just replace the insides of your existing differential with PMNA parts for the 4 plate verion, including the 40/65 locking ramps. This will allow you to do this with the transmission in the car and without having to check/change the pinion depth.

If buting a new one i will not go the cup rute im thinking of a gt1 Guard LSD instead, but the to only replace the inside with a Cup kit sound easies and best right now
Can not the house i have now be modified to hold the 8 plate version..?

Geoffrey,
Why would you need to reset the pinion depth ? You need to measure carefully to determine the correct shim pack to set your backlash but your not doing anything to change your depth

My LSD is gone on my 996 GT2 and I am thinking of replacing the friction-plates with Cup versions.
Can I use both the 4 and 8 plate versions without any modifications? Anything else than the plates that I should replace during the rebuild? What are the partnumbers for the needed pars?

Can you send me your email address? I have a much better idea for your consideration.
How would you feel about a 20 plate differential? I had a feeling that you might like to know a bit more about this option. Cost would be a bit less then the GT offering as well, and there are a couple of other options about this differential that I would like to share with you that I think you will appreciate.
You can send me an email at ecjhawk@yahoo.com or at mail@gboxweb.com
Happy to help and anyone else interested in getting some more information can email me or give me a call.

If you want it done correctly by the people with the most experience, then call BMC&G at 740-593-8936. We have two options with the cast iron original (which is good for about two years) and the RSR which is more expensive but indestructible. We also have computer programs which show force rates and we will set the diff up for your individual handling characteristics (just like we do for ALMS Team Champion Flying Lizard and others). Call and talk to Brian after he recuperates from the drive back from Laguna, He can tell you exactly how to set the potentiometer in the car. Visit our web site bmcg-gearbox.com
