When half-shafts go bad (pic).....

I had a similar experience with my 993. A previous owner had installed street half shafts and they just twisted themselves loose over time. Driving back to the pits was not an option...
Sorry, no pics.

Kev less than 80 hours on the car total. It's an 05' Cup that ran a few races inthe first IMSA GT3 season and a few Club races. It has been sitting until just recently....

For 5k per set of axles, it would seam like it would be cheaper to make your own!

Geoffrey, can you expand a bit on the Cartridge axles? what makes them so much stronger? source? Do you think there is an inherent error factor if one uses a blue and a black if one is forced to mix a spare black at trackside?

Causes of broken axles:
1. Accelerating hard while rear end light (suspension extended) or after catching air over birms
2. Accelerating before car completely dropped from air jacks in hot pits
3. Excessive standing starts
Please add your favorites and we can all learn from each other:
Note, once an axle has been used on one side, it is only a spare for that side. Splines will wear, even if not visually detectable from regular eyesight.

Hi Norm,
The Cartridge axles are built by a company Robert Linton owns and have been used by many of the ALMS teams in the RSRs. The axles have a high quality CV joint and lightweight axle assembly with cooling designed in. They are made from material like titanium, 300M, ceramic *****, etc. I know Chris Cervelli has been running them on their RSR and have been more cost effective to run over the Blue axles even at 11k initial price.

What about these ones. $2,400 sounds pretty good.
I was considering them to run SCCA ProSolo events this year (at least 12 Drag Racing starts per event). Last year a GT2 and a GT3 broke axles at the SCCA ProSolo Nationals.
