Default How do you get th Shift **** off ?

This may be simple but I got a new shift **** (996) and it appears you just jam the new one onto the shifter assembly. Or is there a secret to this ? Also how do you get the old one off ?

Pull Hard with a quick motion. Or use a plastic hammer and improvised piece of wood or soft surface tool.
